This flip book goes through all the main characters of the novel. It includes graphic organizers for your students to fill out in order to better understand character development. It makes a great study guide and a good way to have your students understand the differences and similarities between the different characters of the novel.

On the following pages are flash cards for all of the sight words used in this worksheet.

For ease of use, they are presented in the order of introduction in the worksheet. Laminating the cards would also help make them durable. Punching a hole in each card and keeping them on a ring for each child is also a good way to keep the cards organized and easy to use.

There are many ways to use these cards. Listed below are some games and activities to help children learn to recognize the sight words:

• Sort the cards by sight words with the same beginning letter

• Find sight words that rhyme, and write other words that rhyme with the sight words on a dry erase board or separate sheet of paper.

• Sort the cards to make pairs of sight words that begin with the same letter. Play the “Memory” game using these words—players don’t get to keep the pair unless they can read both words. As an extension of this, also have players use the words in sentences.

• Use a timer to see how quickly each sight word is recognized. Begin with a small number of cards. Add more cards once increased speed and confidence is achieved.

• Put the sight words in alphabetical order.

• Come up with another word that begins with the same sound as each

sight word.

Why teach word meaning through nonsense words?

• Students must use critical thinking to solve
• Students must read the whole passage for context clues
• Students must problem solve to find the best word that makes the most sense.
• They can't find the answer except through problem solving.

All of these are things we want every student to do! This is something that is already adapted for high and low learners.

Introducing Inflectional Endings Bingo – an engaging activity for students to practice decoding words with endings -es, -ed, -and -ing! This game is designed to help students develop their skills decoding words with inflectional endings!

If you teach using UFLI or the Science of Reading, this product needs to be in your instructional rotation! This takes Roll and Reads to the next level with fluency phrases using the targeted words and irregular words from UFLI lessons 6-10. Each sound has 10 phonics phrases roll and reads. Students will find the words from the lesson in each sentence they read!

Targeted Sounds and Words (10 games for each)

• p/p/: the, I, and, map, pat, sap, tap
• f/f/: the, I, and, fat, sat, map, tap
• short I: the, I, and, a, fit, if, it, its, it's, pit, sip, sit, tip
• n/n/: the, I, and, a, is, fin, in, nap, nip, pin, tin
• cvc review: all of the above words

There are so many ways to use these to fit in with your instruction! I love them because it adds another layer on to just the regular Roll and Reads. Be sure to follow my store to find out when I upload more!

Students will count the phonemes or sounds they hear in picture word cards and place them on peanut bags. They will place the peanut word card under the number that represents the sounds they hear. This is a terrific phonemic awareness activity. Students need to know the difference between counting the sounds they hear in words and counting letters in words. I also find that many students often confuse counting phonemes with counting syllables in words. Students need to practice this phonemic awareness skill often so they can become better writers and their inventive spelling will improve. They need lots and lots of practice. Breaking words up into individual sounds is in many DIBELS testing that kindergarten students are expected to do.

I updated this packet to include 36 pictures for students to sort into categories as they count the sounds they hear in words. There are extra peanuts for you to use if you wish to design new words to add to this activity. This activity also comes with an Answer Key.

You will receive the following:

• Sorting mats for two sounds, three sounds, and four sounds
• 36 peanut sorting cards with pictures and words
• 36 peanut sorting cards with just the pictures and no words
• recording sheets with primary lined paper (differentiated by the number of lines)
• recording sheets with secondary lined paper (differentiated by the number of lines)
