Why have your geography students study Asian Highway 1? First, It is the longest highway in the Eastern Hemisphere! **It also acts as on of the main **trading infrastructure **in Asia. Studying **Asian Highway 1 **offers your students a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights into the cultural, economic, and geopolitical dynamics of the region. This major transportation route **spans over 14 countries **in Asia, connecting diverse cultures and economies along its path.
By studying** Asian Highway 1**, also called the Great Asian Highway, students can deepen their understanding of the relationships between countries in Asia, as well as the challenges and opportunities that arise from regional cooperation and integration. Additionally, studying this highway provides students with a real-world case study for analyzing the impact of infrastructure development on economic growth, trade relations, and cross-border connectivity. Ultimately, gaining knowledge about Asian Highway 1 equips students with a comprehensive perspective on the complexities of regional development in Asia and prepares them for careers in international affairs, economics, or transportation planning.
Students will begin the lesson with an optional video, and then move to a song analysis written about the Asian Highway. Students will work cooperatively to complete an interactive reading and dot-to-dot map activity. To wrap up the lesson students will travel the Asian Highway and write postcards from 6 different stops along the highway having learned of the the geography and culture. The class will participate in a most interesting facts group activity, followed up with exit cards. This will allow students to learn from each other.
