UFLI FOUNDATIONS | Elkonin Boxes | Word Mapping | Spelling and Writing

By Puddle Jumpers Speech Pathology

Do your students need some further independent practice following their UFLI or science of reading phonics lessons? This is a UFLI inspired extension task for lessons 1 to 98 word work. Elkonin boxes can be used to teach phonemic awareness by having students listen for individual sounds and marking where they hear the sounds in boxes. These printable worksheets assist the students with their phonemic awareness, segmenting sounds, grapheme-phoneme correspondence and grapheme placement. Each box in an Elkonin box card represents one phoneme, or sound.

DISCLAIMER: This product is not endorsed by UFLI Foundations nor is it affiliated in any way. No part of this product copies any material found in the manual or the toolbox.

Contents:

All pages contain black and white images;

85 pages/worksheets that cover most of UFLI lessons 1 to 98;

  • Initial Alphabet lessons may be combined on one sheet where necessary – 16 sheets for lessons 1 to 34 - please see table of contents for full list.
  • Review Alphabet worksheets have 2 sheets for each vowel, in addition there are worksheets for CCVC , CVCC and CCVC - more than 65 words and pictures for the Review Alphabet.
  • Other worksheets are sorted by lessons and have 4-5 words on each sheet;

There are no individual sheets for review lessons 49, 53, 57, 59, 76, 79, 83, 88, 92, 97 as these lessons can use previous sheets;

There are no sheets for lessons 43;

Table of contents has the complete detail with link to slides and word lists - please check preview for everything included in this packet;

The games are an extension to UFLI Core Lessons:

Step 5: new concept

Step 6: word work

Teaching students to segment words into individual speech sounds is a useful strategy to improve student reading. These worksheets are a great way to provide extra practice in grapheme-phoneme correspondence and grapheme placement.

Elkonin boxes can be used to teach phonemic awareness by having students listen for individual sounds and marking where they hear them in the boxes. Each box in an Elkonin box card represents one phoneme, or sound.

These worksheets may help with practice of letter formation.

These worksheets can help a student with word spelling. A student might write the sounds in the elkonin boxes or choose to use manipulative letters before writing the words on the blank lines.

What other teacher’s are saying about my other products:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lucky Squares: My students beg me to play this whenever they have a bit of free time!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Honeycomb Race: These are awesome! Such an easy extension from UFLI lessons to use for centers, homework, small groups. I love these!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My students love playing the Dots and Boxes game! It provides great practice and reinforcement of the skill we're working on in UFLI. I have extra copies that I keep for fast finishers, so they can play with a classmate.
