Les Animaux French Vocab Game | J'ai, Qui a?
By Senorita Creativa
"I have, Who has?" is a fun and engaging whole-class game for your French class to practice vocabulary. The vocabulary used on the cards covers animals (please download the preview to view the terms used). This game includes 2 versions of the activity in a zipped file - one with the images in color and another with the images in black and white. Each set includes the same 32 cards as well as directions, an answer key, and a student answer sheet. My students love playing this game, especially when I time them. They love trying to beat their times.

FRENCH | BACK-TO-SCHOOL/RENTRÉE | 4 CORNERS/4 COINS | ICEBREAKER | GET TO KNOW
By French Made Fun!
This is a freebie for you!
This game of "Four Corners" is not new or unique; however, this one will work great for your middle schoolers who need to get up and move, and you'll find they are more apt to share without raising their hands or writing it down. This quick and easy, no prep and no printing activity will allow you to truly get to know them on a personal level very quickly.
It's HIGHLY visual so this could even fly in a Core French classroom (Grades 5 - 9); however, I use it in an immersion setting (Grades 5 and 6). It could comfortably be used in any Immersion or French first-language classroom (Grades 3 - 9). As with all of my products, it's not at all babyish and doesn't feature fonts that are frilly or hard-to-read.
For this activity, simply project and GO. I let my students know that they will have to choose their response and move to the corner of the room that suits their answer. You can either click through the slides, have a student touch your SmartBoard to move them along, or you can use a remote clicker or mouse (I do while I'm playing!) to keep the slides rolling.

Product includes:
A set of vibrant and thought-provoking conversation cards featuring a wide range of vocabulary words.
Each card contains a vocabulary word and picture as a visual aid.
There are 9 terms on the conversation cards as well as the slides.
3 Different Journal pages total -
One with information about how to write and discuss feelings. A good journal to start with for the first few days.
Two with feelings vocabulary (one in color and one black and white)
Daily journals include calendar talk questions - Day, Date, and Weather
The feelings journal includes pictures of feelings/facial expressions along with a related prompt or question to encourage writing, discussion and critical thinking.
Lists of possible ways to use the vocabulary and activities to be used today
Key Features:
How to Use:
(See embedded video in slide as well.)
Bell Ringers - Daily Journals for French class.
Day 1: Show them the presentation and model for them.
Day 2:
Print, copy, and have them ready for students as they walk in.
Saving on paper? Copy machine never works? Download the slide as a png and have students write on them on a touchscreen device or their own papers. My students use the app Chrome Canvas on their Chromebooks. I loan styluses to students during class. They aren’t too expensive. Some students just write with their fingers. (Please see my terms of use for using digital downloads.)
Day 2: Discuss the responses as a class. If you need to repeat Day 1 for the talking part for a few days, that’s okay. They will get it.
Days 3-5: Continue discussing responses after the journal each day. This will help them with writing and speaking.
Days 6 and on (or when you know they are ready): When used consistently, students will be able to speak with the phrases very quickly. Have them sit in groups and discuss their journals as you walk around the room. I often keep track of points on Class Dojo and give them a goal to shoot for.
Scaffold so that students will be able to talk without the journal eventually.
Use the words and phrases that they have learned in other activities.
Add the questions and answers to write stories as a class or individually. I tell students to include the day, date, weather, etc. in all of their stories.
Ask students what another student said work on other perspectives, i.e. I, you, he, she, etc.
Student A: Je me sens triste.
Student B: Elle dit, «Je me sens triste.» or «Elle se sent triste.»
For Conversation:
Day 1: Show them the presentation and model for them.
Every day: Start with the journal at the beginning of each period. I usually do this for a few weeks. It will help with the conversation cards.
Day 2: Discuss the responses as a class.
Scaffold - Gradually, have students talk without the aid of the journal. I generally let students use their journals for 2 or 3 weeks, depending on the level, before having them talk without their work in front of them.
Slide 13 - Ask, Ask, Trade- Each student gets a card and switches cards throughout the activity to practice various types of weather..
Student A: «Comment est-ce que tu te sens?» (Or teach the formal «Comment est-ce que vous vous sentez?» (This could be on the board in front so students can refer back to it as they learn it.)
Student B (who has a happy face): , “Je me sens heureux.” or “heureuse.” Then Student B asks: “Comment est-ce que tu te sens?”
Student A (who has a sad card): “Je me sens triste.”
Students A and B exchange cards and find new partners.
During Ask, Ask, Trade- After students have had more practice with the cards, have them tell new partners what previous partners said. (Ex: Je me sens triste mais Sarah se sens grincheuse.)
Win, Lose, or Draw: Draw a conversation card from a pile. Draw it on the board and class guesses. Students or the teacher can draw.
Aïe! Game Instructions are included when slides are in “edit” mode.

Why Learn Another Language Scavenger Hunt Game for Spanish, French, Italian
By Specialty Spanish
Need a fun way to start the year in World Language class? How about a team-building game! This reading about why students should learn another language goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery! This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher! This is a great way to get the year started with new students, or to provide motivation when you see interest and effort waning. This activity is in English, and can be used by any World Language class!
All World Language teachers want to motivate and encourage our students, and help them see the value of becoming proficient in the language they’re studying. This story gives 10 teen-friendly reasons why it’s so beneficial to prioritize learning a new language!
The story revolves around two teens trying to decide what classes to take. Your students play the role of the mystery solvers. They have to read all 10 parts of the story to figure out the answer to the final question; what will the students grow up to be in their career? While your students read the story parts, they are looking for “code words” in the story. Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of teens’ future career. It’s so much fun!
After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students. There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a “tell me in your own words” summary activity, an opportunity to work with a group and write a story about a adventure the teens will have in their career (which can be done in the TL), and an activity where they can explore possible careers for bilingual people. Answer key to the True/False is also included. Best of all? If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!
