High School French Internet Activities

This French reading comprehension activity will teach your students about the history of SAPEurs and their role in African culture.  It is suitable for novice-high/intermediate-low students with teacher guidance and higher-level students to work independently.  If you teach AP French, this reading can be useful in giving your students practice reading nonfiction articles for the interpretive section of the test.  The reading can lead to discussion or writing activities to include the other two modes of communication.

Les SAPEurs are members of a special society, one that loves to dress elegantly and show off their style. Despite living in poverty, many of the members of the society find a way to dress like the most elegant gentlemen of the past. Learn about the origins of the society and their current situation in this reading for intermediate/advanced French learners. Reading is in passé composé and imparfait.

This is one of my students' favorite projects and a great way to wrap up a unit on clothing. In this project, students will embark on a virtual shopping adventure to purchase clothing items for a family in need. With $600 American dollars collected for a family affected by a recent house fire, students will use their language skills to navigate an authentic French online store to select clothing items for a family of four. My fashionistas get particularly into this one!

Students will:

• Translate their American dollars into Euros

• Browse through clothing categories

• Convert to European sizes

• Add items to their virtual shopping cart

• Stay within a given budget

• Take notes on new French vocabulary encountered during their shopping experience.

• Complete a "Liste de Cadeaux" to document their purchases

• Prepare a brief oral presentation in French to share with the class.

This project not only reinforces essential language skills such as vocabulary acquisition and currency conversion but also promotes empathy, cultural awareness, and community engagement. Woody Allen's blockbuster movie, Midnight in Paris, a love-letter to the city of Paris! My students really love watching this movie! Even if the movie is in English, there are lots of follow up activities you can do in French with your students. This is an exercise to accompany a report by a Figaro journalist, given in French (of course!). Here's a digital escape game for passé composé vs imparfait that is a fun way to learn about French history and culture AND practice the difference between the verb tenses at the same time! Your friend has been the victim of mistaken identity and is now being held hostage in the Louvre. In order to free him, you'll have to use your French skills.

To find the keys to free the friend, students will have to answer questions based on a video and a written passage, plus practice using both the passé composé and imparfait. Activities are in French, with a little bit of English to help make things clear. Includes both avoir and être as helping verbs, regular and irregular verbs.

This Digital escape game for passé composé vs imparfait includes a detailed teacher instruction guide with answer key and a link to access the site. Students will need access to the Internet/YouTube in order to play the game.  Students will enjoy this game as a fun way of practicing the formation and usage of both tenses.
