A Scientific Method Activity Hoppin' Corn FREEBIE -

Use this hands-on scientific method activity during a matter unit, or as a fun science center. Perfect for some fun after break!

You will need:

- a clear jar (such as a mason jar)

- 2 cups of water

- 2 tablespoons baking soda

- 6 tablespoons white vinegar

- food coloring (optional)

The question and procedure is filled in on the recording sheet. Students will need to formulate and record their hypothesis, materials, observations, and conclusion. There are guiding questions to help students think about what happened during the experiment.

The reaction created by the mixture of the baking soda and vinegar causes CO2 to form, creating gas bubbles that make the corn "hop" around.

Help students predict and classify with this observation journal! Students first learn about the flowering plant life cycle. Then, they label the important parts of a plant. Student then plant one of 4 seeds- sunflower, firecracker, moonflower or marigold. They make predictions on what flower this will become based on the identification pages. Once a week, or whenever the educator feels is fit, the students note any changes, make a prediction on draw an observation. Let the growing begin! Seeds not included :)

Classifying Plants and Animals Adapted Notes and Review

In this product, students will learn about the following: living things - plants and animals and where they live and what they need to live, nutrients and why they are important for plants and animals to survive, the parts of a plant - roots, stems, leaves, and cells. Students will also learn that they can classify plants by the shape of their outside edge, texture, and vein pattern. Students will learn the vein pattern in leaves - netted or parallel veins. Students will also learn about smooth leaf margin and jagged leaf margins. Students will learn about the texture of plants - waxy texture, rough texture, and smooth texture. Students will also learn about the stem structure - soft stems and woody stems. Students will then learn about the root stems - taproots and fibrous roots of plants. As students are learning about the classification of plants they will answer comprehension questions throughout the product to ensure comprehension. Students will then draw a picture of each part of the plant that they are learning about. At the end of the product, students will answer fill in the blank questions that review vocabulary was covered throughout the product.

The object is to sort the cloud types by the layer that they’re found in. Each type can also be labeled whether or not the cloud type contains precipitation or not.
