File Folder Board Games Practice Turn taking, Rules, Politeness (Special Ed)

By Until the Pieces Fit

6 File Folder Games

File folder games allow students opportunities to learn to through play. Communication and appropriate interactions are important skills they will need throughout life.

This set provides 6 different activities, however they each follow the same general rules, expectations, and idea. I use this with my kiddos that need practice turn taking, losing (students may lose a desired game piece), cooperation, following directions, matching and so much more. The games are easy in nature, however highly addictive for the competitive kids. This allows for opportunities with students in differing abilities.

The themes for the games are:

Fill the Wagon

Make a cake

Buggy Day

Laundry

Moon Walk

Ice Cream

Rules (some differences in games - this example is the Fill the wagon rules).

Contents & Prep:

  • Print/Laminate 1 mat per person, use a expo marker to personalize wagons.  Each player will collect their items in their wagon.
  • Print and laminate 4 dogs, 4 flowers, 4 ice cream, 4 bubbles, 1 book, 1 leaf pile - place them in the middle of the game board.
  • Print the game board and glue/laminate to a file folder
  • Print and prepare dice (or use your own dice)

*For easy storage of game pieces attach an envelope to the back of the file folder prior to lamination.  Make a small slice in the lamination to release the top of the envelope.  Attach velcro to close.

Object:  Be the first to collect all the items except the leaf pile in your wagon.   If you have the books or the leaf pile and someone else lands on it you have to give it to the other player.

Choose your player:  Once you have chosen your player, place them on the board any spot will do!

Directions:

  1. Roll the dice and move your player.
  2. Collect the pieces as you go and place them in your wagon.   You may only get one of each item!
  3. The first person to collect 1 dog, 1 flower, 1 ice cream, 1 bubble and the books wins!

For 2-4 players

FREE Prepositions GAME

By Early Childhood Essentials

The goal: to be at the ending/final spot deemed to be correct by the teacher after following all steps.

The purpose: Not only will this be a great test of listening and following directions, but getting prepositions practice in with a fun and interactive activity never hurts!

The download has these details for easy access:

Directions: First, pick the final spot students must end up and keep it to yourself. Then, create a list of as many prepositional steps as possible. You know your classroom and your students best.

Examples include:

Move next to the teacher's desk

Take two steps in front of the whiteboard

Take one step behind the desk

and so on...

Once the class has followed all the steps, they should be at the final spot you chose (secretly) at the start.

Even take this outside during recess! Get creative.

1950s Consumer Sears Catalog Simulation

By Sarah Austin

The year is 1956. You & your partner have taken advantage of new economic conditions & purchased a suburban home. Upon moving to the suburbs, you find you need to fill your home with clothes & furniture.

Use the Sears catalog provided to fill your home. The average monthly income in the USA in 1955 was $360. Let’s say you & your partner have been saving, and have a savings account of $600. The mortgage payment on your home is $60 per month, & let's say you use $40 per month for groceries. That leaves you with $500 to spend for the month!

Fill out the provided order sheet with the products you want to buy, and their prices. Do not spend more than $500, because then you will end up in debt! Beware–life events and circumstances happen, so adjust accordingly!

This Resource Includes:

  • Teacher Reference Guide
  • Google Slide Presentation
  • Sears Catalog Student Handout
  • Life Event Cards
  • 1956 Sears Catalog (Printable & digital versions)
