In this generation, teens have developed their own language based on what is happening in teen culture. Slang words are unconsciously used in our everyday language by students in all grades, and even by teachers, and will continue to evolve faster than we know! – Word!

Many people identify slang as being “street.” In that case, students can be “street” and STILL HAVE SOCIAL SKILLS!

This resource is centered around 28 HIGHLY RELEVANT social skills scenarios using SLANG WORDS**. (That's right! It's time to get down with your kids! They will think you are the BOMB.COM!)** Students are asked to read scenarios (in their own created "slang" language) and think about how they can respectfully handle certain situations.

*************************************************************************************************************

The scenarios feature 7 different topics, FOUR scenarios for each of the following topics:

  • Dealing with HATERS
  • Dealing with BULLIES
  • Dealing with LIARS
  • Dealing with SNITCHES
  • Dealing with BACKSTABBERS
  • Dealing with PARTNERS
  • Dealing with NEGATIVE PEOPLE

*************************************************************************************************************

The scenarios encourage students to think about and practice how to:

  • navigate difficult situations and challenges with peers and close friends
  • have difficult conversations with the very people they spend a great deal of time with
  • build confidence in managing their anger and emotions
  • handle challenging situations with a sense of maturity
  • improve social skills and behavior
  • brainstorm coping skills
  • evaluate best solutions in different situations

This resource features (and is centered around) 28 REAL-LIFE, student-inspired, social skills scenarios/situations that teens and young adults experience daily in school and out of school. Students read the scenarios and write, discuss, or create role-plays/skits on how to maturely handle difficult situations despite feelings of anger, jealousy, betrayal, etc.

*************************************************************************************************************

*************************************************************************************************************

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

  • Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to show how skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
  • Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
  • Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.
  • Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.
  • Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, "How can your respectfully handle this situation," “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider?”

Cochlear Implant Surgery Workbook for Deaf HOH

By Sign with me TOD

In this product, students will learn about the process of receiving cochlear implants. They can add a picture of themselves to the first page of the booklet. Students will learn or review what steps are needed to receive cochlear implants - a hearing test, going for a scan to determine if cochlear implants would benefit a Deaf individual, going to the hospital to have cochlear implant surgery, a doctor called an otolaryngologist performs cochlear implant surgery, and what happens after surgery, when cochlear implants are turned on and mapped.

By My Speech Therapy Go-Tos

Teach your students to effectively Self-Advocate At WORK with this Self-Advocacy At WORK Life Skills Problem Solving Scenarios for Older Students Expansion Pack.

Pair these Work Self-Advocacy Problem Solving Scenario Cards with

Self-Advocacy Skills + Life Skills Problem Solving Scenarios for Older Students - students will learn the necessary foundational skills of speaking up and become confident and effective self-advocates in any setting with any communication partner.

I work on improving self-advocacy skills daily with my high school students. My goal is to improve their executive functioning skills to foster independence problem solving and advocating for themselves to get the help they need.

I wanted a way to help them not only learn to self-advocate in life, but to speak up effectively at work, as many of them are already working or will soon be working. Some have part time jobs, some are participating in a work based learning program through school, and some are planning on working in professional settings in the future.

Many of my students have learned to express themselves over the years, but are vague in their expression and forget to include enough detail. They haven’t quite mastered what to say in different situations to ask for help and inform others exactly what they need. This leaves others confused and the students’ needs unmet.

Many of my students have learned to express themselves over the years, but are vague in their expression and forget to include enough detail. They haven't quite mastered what to say in different situations to ask for help and inform others exactly what they need. This leaves others confused and the students' needs unmet.

This Self-Advocacy Formula + Template breaks speaking up into 3 simple and easy-to-follow steps. Students will learn to self-advocate in any problem solving situation in a variety of work settings with confidence.

This Self-Advocacy At Work Expansion Pack includes:

- A Color and a B&W version

- Mini-lesson/Self-Advocacy Formula

- Self-Advocacy Formula Template (Use as a guide when figuring out what to say in each situation).

- Examples to model effective use of the self-advocacy formula and the template

- 40 Work Self-Advocacy Problem Solving Scenario Cards to practice using the self-advocacy formula in the workplace

* Printable and has been designed to easily be used digitally on any interactive whiteboard or with any digital annotation tool or app.

I am seeing significant improvement in my own students now that they are using this self-advocacy formula. Breaking it down into its parts and then practicing expressing themselves with detail is getting much easier for them and giving them more confidence at their job sites! I hope it does the same for your students!

Thank you for your interest! Enjoy!

It is important for us to talk about these challenges and help them develop the confidence and motivation to cope, conquer, overcome, and rise above them. Students certainly want to be part of the conversation and share their thoughts and feelings about the very issues that affect them.

This resource features 4 Activity Worksheets and ANSWER KEYS with BREATH-TAKING diverse graphics that are a clear representation of them, 8 COVID-19 Scenario Task Cards (that come in four variations), 8 Scenario Worksheets, and 3 POSTERS (same Poster in 3 variations) that can help spark some deep conversations among students as well as the reality of their situations. Without a doubt, this resource will give students an opportunity to share their feelings and thoughts about the COVID-19 Pandemic, express their frustrations, seek solutions, and build coping skills.

This resource can also help students become more confident and prepare for certain interactions with others during the pandemic, comprehend and learn about their surroundings, deal with situations appropriately, navigate uncomfortable situations, and most importantly, avoid potential conflicts.

TASK CARDS and WORKSHEETS

***This resource features 8 REAL LIFE, HIGHLY RELEVANT COVID-19 scenarios that provides students opportunities to practice navigating and coping with difficult situations as well as respond appropriately and respectfully.

8 COVID-19 Scenario TASK CARDS

•Variation #1: COLORED Task Cards with graphics

•Variation #2: COLORED Task Cards without graphics

•Variation #3: B&W Task Cards with graphics

•Variation #4: B&W Task Cards without graphics

These Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, or even one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian! These Task Cards contain the same scenarios in the COVID-19 Scenario Worksheets.

You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

  • Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate difficult situations through effective responses and communication as well as be exposed to a variety of coping strategies to help them deal with challenges successfully. Students can practice and learn the variety of ways they can handle situations that test their ability to filter their thoughts, respond appropriately and maturely, and communicate effectively. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
  • Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
  • Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.
  • Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. You can ask questions like: How would you respond in this situation? What coping strategies can you use to help you navigate this difficult situation? Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/situations.
  • Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class.
