Building a Magical Fairytale World: A Complete Story Planning Guide for Students

By Agee and Row Classical Music Appreciation

Do you need an engaging writing resource for your fairy tale unit? We've covered all the elements, characters, and settings for the perfect story. Students build worlds, develop character profiles, and map a three-act structure for a fantastic fairy tale writing adventure!

The Benefits of Fairy Tales

Character Building - Fairy tales often feature clear-cut moral lessons about the importance of being kind, brave, and honest.

Creativity - Fairy tales are full of fantasy and magic, which can help children explore their creativity and expand their thinking.

Perseverance - Many fairy tales feature characters who overcome challenges and obstacles to achieve their goals. This can teach children they can overcome challenges if they never give up.

Social-emotional learning - Fairy tales often deal with complex emotions, such as fear, anger, and love. This can help children learn to identify and manage emotions.

The Fairy Tale Writing Planner Includes:

Outline - brainstorm and craft the main elements of their fairy tale with the outline planner. Who is the main character? Which challenges and rewards will their story explore? Lots of themes and keywords are included to choose from.

Character Profiles - students can build up to four character profiles for the heroes and villains in this new fairy tale! Explore personality traits, appearance, hopes and dreams, and more!

Structure - plot the framework for their fairy tale using a simplified three-act structure planner. This is a great way for students to keep their fairy-tale flowing and moving at the right pace.

World Builder - a great fairy tale world is rich in details, creatures, and landscapes. What is the name of this new fairy tale world? Who are its inhabitants? Set the scene for the main and secondary settings.

Themes and Characters - students can explore common fairy tale themes and characters (love, fairy godmothers, villains, good vs. evil, self-discovery)

Settings and Magical Items - from forests to castles to faraway lands, fairy tales can have a wide range of settings, each with its own unique features! Students also learn more about the purpose magical items serve and how to include them.

We've got even more details in our blog post The Best Guide Ever for Amazing Fairy Tale Writing and would love for you to check it out!

Women during the Industrial Revolution: DBQs and Primary Source Analysis *APUSH*

By Christa Nonnemaker

Women during the Industrial Revolution: Primary Source Analysis and DBQs (1865-1920)

This 20 page primary source analysis activity gives students a chance to delve deeper into the experiences and contributions of women during the Industrial Revolution and the Gilded Age.

There is a total of 16 primary sources for students to analyze along with 18 comprehension questions. Included is a one-page sheet that explains what primary sources are and how to analyze them using specific questions through a process called HAPPY. Primary sources include excerpts from journals and books as well as images. Each page of primary sources includes comprehension questions.

There is also a page at the end for students to apply the HAPPY process to one source. There are two Document-Based Questions (DBQs). An Answer Key to all the questions and the HAPPY process is available at the end of the packet.

Depending on how much of the resource is utilized, it can be used for one or multiple class periods.

This is excellent practice for all high school students, particularly Honors and AP students, but all students will find these resources engaging.

There is also an Easel Assessment. For Home Schoolers or for asynchronous learning, this is a valuable digital tool.
