Then have them work with a partner to complete the partner problems. After that they will complete the independent practice to see what they understand on their own. You can assign them the HW for the night. The next day they can summarize what they learned, reflect on what was challenging and what was not and then rate themselves on a scale of 1-4 to self assess how well they understood evaluating piecewise functions.
TOPICS:
- Evaluating piecewise functions algebraically
- Evaluating piecewise functions graphically
ANSWER KEY INCLUDED.
WHAT YOU GET:
>> DO NOW: Students will complete a short word search to familiarize themselves with the vocabulary associated with piecewise functions. They will fill in a chart reflecting on words they have heard of and have not.
>> GUIDED NOTES: You can go through the vocabulary, guided notes and 4 guided examples with your students.
>>PARTNER PROBLEMS: They will each complete 5 problems each and then check each others problems to reinforce the concepts of solving piecewise functions.
>>INDEPENDENT PROBLEMS: Students will then work alone to see how well they understand piecewise functions on their own without the help of their partner and complete 10 problems.
>>HW: Students will complete 6 practice problems to practice piecewise functions.
>>SUMMARIZE, REFLECT, ASSESS: Students will summarize the lesson, reflect on the challenges they had and then self assess from 1-4 to determine how well they understood piecewise functions.
