High Interest Activity to Demonstrate Knowledge:

Students are fully engaged in displaying what they have learned about symbiotic relationships. Students will research two organisms which will be chosen at random or assigned by the teacher. Students will present what they have learned about the relationships by creating a poster and giving an oral presentation. Students will learn about benefits and consequences about relationships between organisms. This activity allows for creativity and this creativity increases engagement.

This activity could be assigned and completed digitally via Google Slides.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

Introducing the Dr. Jane Goodall Binoculars!

Unleash the spirit of exploration and environmental stewardship in your students with our specially crafted DIY binoculars kit, inspired by the legendary Dr. Jane Goodall. This activity is designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love for the wonders of the natural world.

Step 1: Gather Materials

Materials Needed:

1. Two empty toilet paper rolls
2. Template
3. Glue or tape
4. String or yarn
5. Hole punch
6. Scissors
7. Markers, stickers, or other decorative items (optional)

Step 2: Decorate the Toilet Paper Rolls

• Use earthy tones or natural colors to represent the environment.
• Cut out pictures of animals, especially primates like chimpanzees, from magazines or printouts, and glue them onto the binoculars.

Step 3: Connect the Toilet Paper Rolls

Step 4: Create Eyepieces

On one end of each toilet paper roll, make a small hole using a hole punch or by carefully poking it with scissors. Make sure the holes are aligned.

Step 5: Attach String

Cut a length of string or yarn, approximately 12-18 inches long. Thread one end through the hole in one toilet paper roll and tie a knot inside to secure it. Repeat with the other side.

Step 6: Decorate Further (Optional)

• Add quotes from Dr. Jane Goodall or information about her conservation efforts.
• Draw or glue pictures of forests and wildlife habitats on the binoculars.

Step 7: Have Fun Exploring!

Now your Dr. Jane Goodall-themed binoculars are ready for action. Encourage the kids to use their binoculars to observe and appreciate nature, just like Dr. Jane Goodall did in her pioneering work with chimpanzees. This theme not only adds a fun and educational element to the craft but also instills a sense of environmental awareness.

This is a great project for APES or Biology! I used it for both, but for Biology I made some of the last tasks optional and changed some of the upper tasks to weigh a little bit more to balance it out to 100%. It includes the rubric, which is a checklist for the students and also for your grading convenience!

The students love it! It can be done individually or in pairs. It can be a gallery walk or presented to the class. I hope you and your students enjoy!

Here are the instructions: You will research a biome that you select from the proposed list. While researching your biome, you will learn about commonalities, locations, community interactions within it, and look at any environmental issues associated with the biome. The final part of your project will be a free-standing display on a poster board of all the information you gathered and you will be prepared to present this information to the class. Below is a rubric showing the research required for your display, and their point value. You will be presenting this to the class!

Do not simply “cut & paste” your information! It must be your own writing. Failure to use your own work is plagiarism!

A biography writing unit about the famous English scientist, Isaac Newton. The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in third grade or fourth grade. Students will learn about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills and developing their creative writing.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

Firstly, there are eight reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

• Albert Einstein
• Marie Curie
• Charles Darwin
• Isaac Newton
• Benjamin Franklin
• Galileo
• Stephen Hawking
• Nikola Tesla

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are four biography writing units about Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

With the help of these endangered species worksheets, kids from all over the world will enjoy learning about these fascinating endangered animals. These incredible creatures will go extinct and we won’t get to enjoy them ever again if nothing is done to save them and their habitats! Regretfully, there are currently more than 30,000 species of endangered animals. Students in kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades can learn about these endangered species with the aid of these animal reports on endangered animals. Utilize the animal worksheets to write reports about animals by adding details about their habitat, characteristics, history, reason for extinction, and other details.

The following endangered species are included in the more than 18 available animal report forms: blue whale, bluefin tuna, camel, chinchilla, elephant, gorilla, honey bee, killer whale (orca), macaw, manatee, markhor, orangutan, panda, porpoise, rhinoceros, sea turtle, tapir, and zebras.

There is 1 page for each of the 18 different animals in this printable pack. Children can fill out these enjoyable worksheets with the following information once they have researched each animal and learned why it is endangered as well as how to help it.
