Emotional Regulation to Teach What’s In My Control vs. Out of My Control
By Mrs Bell The Crafty Counselor
Help students learn what's in my control vs. out of my control and how to protect their "brain space" with this comprehensive and engaging social-emotional learning (SEL) resource! Our brains have a limited amount of space to process information, so it's essential to teach students how to focus on what they can control and cope with the things they can't.
By using these activities, students will be guided through understanding the difference between what's in their control and what's beyond it, helping them reduce stress and improve emotional regulation.
This resource is perfect for classroom teachers, counselors, or even parents looking for SEL tools to help kids recognize and prioritize what’s worth their emotional energy. Students will learn to identify situations that deserve their attention while developing self-awareness, decision-making skills, and coping strategies for dealing with life's uncertainties.
What’s Included:
• Three engaging posters that visually explain "brain space" and the concept of a circle of control.
• Situation Sort Game, which provides hands-on practice for students to classify and differentiate what is within their control versus what is out of their control.
• Three differentiated worksheets tailored for different learning levels, offering students the opportunity to reflect on their personal experiences with control.
• Worry Bracelet Craft, a fun and interactive project that helps reinforce calming strategies and gives students a tangible way to manage their stress and worries.
These printer-friendly activities are an ideal addition to any classroom, small group, or counseling curriculum focused on teaching students how to cope with anxiety, stress, and feelings of being overwhelmed.
With engaging visuals and interactive exercises, students will not only understand the concepts of emotional regulation but will also develop the tools they need to navigate challenging situations with confidence.
Empower your students to manage their emotional well-being and practice self-control by helping them recognize what they can influence in their world and what they need to let go of. This resource is an excellent way to foster mindfulness, stress management, and emotional intelligence in children while building a strong foundation for mental resilience.
This SEL toolkit is ideal for use during morning meetings, as part of a calming corner, or in any emotional regulation lesson. The activities help children make better decisions by focusing on what they can change and learning to accept and cope with what they cannot control.
Whether you're a teacher or counselor, these tools will be valuable in helping your students thrive emotionally!
