How to Use the Silent Shuffle Activity:

Introduce the Topic: Start with a short overview of the Crusades and discuss the common reasons why people might have chosen to go.
Silent Shuffle: Students work in pairs to silently sort the provided cards into categories, then discuss and adjust their answers based on their partner’s input.
Class Discussion: Review the card sort as a class, discussing the different motivations for going on Crusade.
Reflection Worksheet: Students rank the reasons for going on Crusade and reflect on which ones they think were most important.

This hands-on, discussion-driven resource offers an excellent way for students to explore the Crusades while fostering historical analysis, teamwork, and critical thinking. Your students will enjoy this interactive approach to medieval history!
