Plant and Animal Cells with iCell : An Interactive Way to Learn About Cells

This package can be used in conjunction with the free iCell app (by Hudson Alpha), which is available for iPad and Android, as well as mobile devices. Note: the iPhone app is not as advanced as the iPad app as it only gives basic definitions of cell organelles. The app is a 3D interactive way for students to learn about plant and animal cells. You can move the cell around to see where the different cell organelles are located and click on the organelles to read basic, intermediate, or advanced, descriptions. I wish there were interactive programs like this when I had to learn about cells! This unit aligns with the Ontario Grade 8 Science curriculum. One way to use this package is have students use the app to explore the parts of an animal and a plant cell. After searching online for basic cell diagrams, I did not find any that looked similar to the app so I decided to draw a plant and animal cell in 3D to match the iCell app. The drawings match up to the cells used in the app. Students can look at the basic, intermediate, or advanced descriptions from the app and colour the cell using specific colours as identified in the handout. An additional set of questions is included to ensure students explore through each of the descriptions of the plant and animal cell. What is included in this package: -Animal Cell Worksheet – provides the cell organelles and a section to write out the descriptions from the iCell app -Animal Cell Organelle Identification and Colouring Activity -Animal Cell Organelle Identification Activity -Plant Cell Worksheet – provides the cell organelles and a section to write out the descriptions from the iCell app -Plant Cell Organelle Identification and Colouring Activity -Plant Cell Organelle Identification Activity -Additional Questions on Cells -Answer key for Animal Cell Worksheet, Plant Cell Worksheet, and Additional Questions -Plant and Animal Cell Quiz – label cell organelles, compare and contrast differences between plant and animal cells and organelle descriptions where the students have to name the organelle -Answer key to quiz also included I used this with my own grade 8 class and it takes a few days to complete all of the activities. 200 pages are included. I like to print double sided which gives me 100 days of journaling. If you choose to have your students use these on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, you can use this as a full year program.

This resource saves you valuable time by not having to write journal questions yourself. The sequence of tasks is designed to be repetitive so that the tasks remain familiar and achievable, yet the content changes every day to keep it fresh!

The second half of the pages is more challenging than the first as it includes reflexive verbs (even some idiomatic ones), and the vocabulary is at a higher level.

Watch the video I made so that you can see all of the rich material inside and I can show and tell you how I like to use this journal. You'll see that I printed mine double sided on pretty parchment paper and turned it into a booklet that really feels like a journal, but plain white paper and folders to store them in work just as well.

8.5 x 11 letter paper works well for printing this document. All of the pages are black and white and do not require too much ink. I recommend printing the pages double sided. You can bind the pages together with staples, a binder clip, by punching holes in the pages and inserting into a folder, or you can have the pages bound together at a business supply store.

Students will learn the difference between the present and past tense irregular verbs and will see how they are used in sentences. Pictures that relate with each sentence for each of the verbs are provided to help the students understand each verbs meaning.

In the first section of this product, students will be provided with a present and past tense irregular verbs dictionary that includes the present and past tense of the same verb on each page, a sentence using each present and past tense irregular verb, and a picture that helps explain each sentence that is provided.

In the second section of this product, students will be provided with a sentence, the present and past tense irregular verb on each page, and a picture describing each given sentence. Students will be required to fill in the missing verb that goes along with each sentence and picture provided.

In the third section of this product, students will use the picture provided for each present and past tense irregular verb to make up a sentence.
