Positive Affirmation Counseling Activity

Need a fun social-emotional learning classroom lesson, self-esteem small group activity? Your students will LOVE learning all about positive affirmation activities. Using positive affirmations will help your students develop self-efficacy, nurture a positive self-concept, and be a protective factor and coping tool when life gets tough.

By focusing on developing our students' self-esteem our students can cope with mistakes, help kids try again even if they fail at first, they can value themselves and their abilities, and help them be proud of the things they can do.

I honestly can't tell you how many students have barged into my office super anxious and full of regret over decisions surrounding their cell phones. This resource allows you to start having open and honest conversations regarding cell phone safety. Images of cell phones with relatable messages for students to relate to. Students will learn about how being a friend is important, what makes a good friend, what should be looked for in a friend, helping others that you care about or hardly know, and understanding how your friends feel in situations that may arise.

Two social stories that focuses on being a friend are included in this product. The social stories includes comprehension questions throughout. Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of the characters. How does media effect one's self esteem?

This package contains 6 lessons and a culminating task that will address this topic.

The package is meant to be taught over at least five lessons. With discussion, each page should easily fill a 45- to 60-minute lesson block.

Lessons include:

- Influence of the Media

- self esteem and music videos

- what happens when a "beauty" company helps people see their beauty?

- evolution of an advertisement (print media/photoshopping)

- overcoming stereotypes and negative comments

- Think about how awesome you are

- Hand of friendship (culminating task)

There is currently no final assessment piece included in this package.

Each lesson, except the last, should be started with a gratitude journal page. The idea behind this it to help students see that they have a lot to be grateful for, regardless of what the media may portray to them. The journal pages shouldn’t take anymore than 5 minutes, max. For photo copying purposes, the journal page is placed before the worksheet, for any given lesson.
