2 Digit Addition with Regrouping Activity #1

This resource includes 40 interactive Google slides, 6 printable worksheets, and an Easel Ready Activity for students to practice adding double digit numbers with regrouping. This math center uses the place value strategy of base 10 blocks to practice solving addition problems with 2 digit addends up to 100. 

The interactive slides allow students to drag moveable base-10 blocks into the tens and ones place to model the addition problem. Students can practice regrouping by moving groups of 10 ones into the box and exchanging the 10 ones for 1 ten. This is a great visual hands on activity to help students conceptually understand how to regroup numbers when moving to the standard algorithm. Every slide gives students the opportunity to practice the problem using the place value mat with base-10 pieces and the standard algorithm.

The resource also includes a blank worksheet template as well as a blank slides template to create additional problems for your students!

The slides and worksheets are divided into two differentiated levels. The first resource allows students to practice adding double digit numbers with sums up to 50 and the second resource allows students to practice adding double digit numbers with sums from 50-100. Each slideshow contains a video link that models how to add double digit numbers using base-10 blocks. 

This resource can be used in Google Classroom for math centers, independent practice, distance learning, or for small group mini-lesson. Teach your students to find the missing addend in a number bond and write the addition equations with these number bond write and wipe flashcards. These differentiated flashcards include 16 unique number bonds (adding up to 10) with space for students to write the two addition number sentences that match the number bond- great for teaching turn around equations (commutative property) and how to compose and decompose numbers.

Print these large cards (4 per page) onto white or colored paper or cardstock and laminate to create interactive write and wipe flashcards- perfect for a math center, small group work, an intervention, or a fun math choice for early finishers. All your students will need is a dry erase marker and cubes (or other manipulatives).

Teach your students to first find the whole number in the number bond (they can find the whole number by looking to see which circle has two lines touching it). Once they find where the whole number is, they have two choices:

If they are missing the whole number, they need to grab the cubes for the two parts and count how many cubes there are all together. If they are missing a part, they need to grab the cubes for the whole number and split it into the two parts.

Are you looking for a FUN way for students to practice their 2-digit by 2-digit addition? Then this color by number activity is for you and your students! Students solve 6 multiplication questions. Each answer is correlated with a color. They use the problem number and the color they found to add to the snowman coloring page.

This resource would be great as a differentiated activity during stations or centers. There are three or four levels of challenge, depending on what you think your students need:

1. 2-digit by 1-digit addition
2. 2-digit by 2-digit addition (no 100s regrouping)
3. 2-digit by 2-digit addition (100s regrouping)
4. 2-digit by 2 digit addition with a missing digit in the problem

Each sheet has the answers in the same spot for easy correcting no matter which coloring sheet your students are doing.

Students will count the items on each card and then decide whether the number of items is greater than, less than, or equal to the number on the other card. They will then move the appropriate symbol in the middle of the card.
