11th Grade PowerPoint Presentations

This lesson provides a framework (including a step-by-step break downs and examples) for situations where disagreement arises. The lesson covers when it is productive to voice disagreement, when it is not, steps to handle both situations, and how to move past disagreement when it is not able to be resolved.

With middle and high school students I find this topic is relevant just about everyday in the classroom with peers and staff. I carefully made this lesson to cover disagreement neutrally, not framing it as universally good or bad, but dependent on context and delivery.

This lesson is a great chance to add in activities that promote self-advocacy and larger themes of pro-social communication. The lesson includes a presentation (10 slides), a worksheet (2 pages), and a presentation guide (1 page). With other free sources (which I discuss in the presentation guide) I made this lesson span over 4 days.

The slides and worksheet are simple to increase comprehension and suit middle through high school students.

This is a 14-slide PowerPoint presentation which includes a video extract from the RSC of the famous soliloquy being performed.

It considers the main themes of the Scene but also includes some questions for students to think about and/or discuss, as well as a more detailed analysis of how a particular question might be approached.

• The presentation focuses on Act 3, Scene 1 of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It begins by setting the scene and introducing the characters, providing context for the themes discussed later. The main themes explored are appearance vs. reality and madness.

This no-prep, self-grading French digital game will allow your students to practice choosing between un, une, des, de and d'. Each sentence contains a fairly basic French vocabulary word (classroom supplies or food) or a word that has an adjective to help students determine the gender of the noun and they will need to choose un, une, des, or de/d'. If they choose correctly, they continue along the path. But an incorrect answer will send them back to redo that section!

Includes a Google drive, PowerPoint and PDF version of the game. Share with students as an individual assignment or work through the activity as a class on a smartboard.

This Context Clues Reading Passage Packet includes ONE passage that explores a common teen issue / situation. The passage includes eight highlighted words designed to challenge students to broaden their vocabulary. For each word, students will be tasked with deciphering the meaning through several context clues surrounding the word. The activities come with an answer key containing the correct definition of the word, the context clues that helped them identify the meaning of the word, and an example sentence. Through this passage, students will enrich their comprehension skills while exploring a scenario relevant to teenage life.

Students will read the paragraph with the underlined vocabulary word, and decipher the meaning through several context clues surrounding the word. Here's a quick glimpse into each of the four sections featured in the slideshow:

• Part I. The Artist as a Young Man: This section features photographs of Fitzgerald from his childhood in Minnesota, his college years at Princeton, his military training at Camp Sheridan, and his romantic courtship of Zelda Sayre in Montgomery, Alabama. Your students will be fascinated by the parallels between Fitzgerald's life and Jay Gatsby's upbringing, military training, and romantic life. What does his interest in Horatio Alger's rags-to-riches novels reveal about the character of Jay Gatsby? What does his interest in Lothrop Stoddard's The Rising Tide of Color reveal about the racist and xenophobic views of Tom Buchanan? (7 slides)

• Part IV. Drafting The Great Gatsby: This section features photographs of the mansions and parties that Scott and Zelda attended on Long Island in 1923. It also features Fitzgerald's handwritten drafts of the first and last pages of his novel, a list of the six titles that Fitzgerald rejected (plus the title he actually preferred but requested after the book had gone to print), and the painting by Fancis Cugat that Fitzgerald selected for the cover of The Great Gatsby.
