Professional Development- Engaging Stations

Are you in need of an engaging professional development for your teachers? We expect our teachers to be engaging with their students but we rarely engage our teachers with their learning. Additionally, as teachers, we got away from using hands-on resources in the classroom when COVID-19 happened. Hands-on resources give students a tangible, experiential way for learners to engage with concepts, making abstract ideas more concrete and understandable. By physically manipulating objects or engaging in interactive activities, students can grasp complex concepts more easily and retain information better. Now it is time to refresh our memory on the hands-on resources we can use in the classroom or that we have buried somewhere.

This Canva Presentation is a copy that you can edit and is centered around giving teachers engaging ideas to use for centers or rotations.  The professional development is editable and can be altered to fit your teachers’ needs.

Additionally, this presentation can also be downloaded as a PowerPoint or Google Slide. You will go to the share button in Canva and then the download button. After the download button, press the down arrow where the file type is and select the file you want to download it as.

This PD is important because it gives teachers the following to think about:

  • Varied Teaching Strategies: It introduces teachers to diverse teaching methodologies. Engaging stations often incorporate different activities, catering to various learning styles and preferences. This equips educators with a range of strategies to better engage and reach different types of learners in their classrooms.

  • Active Learning Techniques: Stations promote active learning, encouraging students to interact, explore, and apply knowledge actively. Educators trained in these techniques can create dynamic, interactive learning environments that stimulate student involvement and participation.

  • Differentiated Instruction: Stations can be tailored to accommodate different proficiency levels or learning paces within a classroom. Through professional development, teachers learn how to design and implement stations that cater to individual student needs, allowing for more personalized instruction.

  • Increased Student Engagement: Engaging stations often lead to higher student interest and participation. By providing professional development in this area, teachers can learn strategies to create captivating, interactive lessons that capture students' attention and foster a love for learning.

  • Encourages Collaboration: Stations often involve group work or collaboration among students. Training teachers in station-based learning encourages them to design activities that promote teamwork, communication, and cooperation among their students.

The topics and what is included:

  • 15 Editable Canva Slides on Engaging Stations

  • Real pictures of centers and students using the centers

Coins Interactive Notebook & PowerPoint Identify, Count & Compare Money!)

By Until the Pieces Fit

Are your students having difficulty learning and identifying coins and their values? Mine were, so I worked to develop this interactive notebook and PowerPoint slides & I am thrilled with their progress!

The materials in this packet are developed to use in conjunction with one another. Use the powerpoint to introduce coins, then use the notebook to provide practice with each concept. I have also included a parent letter and a 2 page assessment to provide you with valuable pre/post learning data.

Notebook - The notebook is in black and white. Students are encouraged to color pages to reinforce the colors of coins and make the book more "theirs". Most pages require students to make interactive activities with simple cuts & paste directions. Pages that require more directions (accordion counting, and pocket with flap), are towards the end of the book.

The notebook features practice in the following areas for identification and use of the penny, nickel, dime and quarter:

•Sorting – Color and sort coins into a jar

•Identification – Identify front, back, value, and information about the penny, nickel, dime and quarter.

•Counting by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s, 25’s: 2 activities! Students will identify how much & use coins to make requested amount

•Accordion counting support

•Comparison – Flippable pages show how much $1 is in penny, nickel, dime & quarter

•Making purchases with coins – Select the item to purchase and place in pocket.

PowerPoint

•Look at and discuss what coins look like & their value

•Interactive slides – practice counting coins, coin comparison & making purchases

100 chart for skip counting & multiplication No-print Powerpoint activity

By TamiaDesigns

Need some digital manipulatives for skip-counting or multiplication patterns? Each of the 18 slides in this Powerpoint file contains a hundred frame and sets of ready-made stacked colored semi-opaque tiles. The tiles can be dragged onto the 100 board to make patterns without obscuring the numbers on the board. You, or your students, drag the pre-made counters to the frames to the grid to help them visualize the numbers and patterns they are working with.

Great for distance learning or for an in-class activity that doesn't need to be printed. Ideal for a perfectionist student who gets overly frustrated if they make a mistake - this product can lower their frustration level because if they make a mistake, unlike on a coloring page where crayon or colored pencil can't be erased, they can easily correct it and still end up with an immaculate final product.

The counters are different shapes on different slides. For example, for counting by 3's the markers are triangles, for counting by 5s the markers are pentagons and so on.

There are many ways to use this file! You could use it on an interactive whiteboard, or you could share the file with students and then have the students use the drag and drop counters and the grid to help them visualize the patterns involved in skip counting. Having the drag and drop counters ready to go saves both teachers and students time and makes it easier to see the patterns.
