April Fool's is a great time to have a discussion on REAL and FAKE News.

Want to introduce your students to the history of April Fools' Day? This resource provides a reading for students as well as lots of interesting famous April Fools' Day pranks such as this one that happened in Switzerland in 1957.A news show aired a video on a spaghetti harvest in the country of Switzerland. People were pulling strands of spaghetti dangling down from trees. People actually called the news show asking how they could purchase a spaghetti tree! Additionally, there are extension activities as well as a Test your April Fools' Day IQ(can you spot the True News Stories from the Fake ones?). Did you know that enough dirt was used to create the Great Wall of China to circle the earth with an 8 ft. high wall? Did you know that ice cream was probably first invented by the Chinese(frozen milk/rice)? Did you know that the yo-yo was invented by the Chinese or that the number 9 and the color red are considered good luck in China? I taught a unit on China for 32 years and would love to share some my notes, activities and resources I used with my students.

Groundhog Day: A Reader's Theater Script(Visit with a Groundhog)Play

Part of my Ms. Bie Ografee Talk Show series of Reader's Theater Scripts, the guest is a groundhog! Great for a Groundhog Day activity, kids will learn about the groundhog and a bit of history about Groundhog Day. There is a Did You Know? section,ten comprehension questions, a teacher page with extension activities and links and the key.

Sarsaparilla is a groundhog who is invited to Ms. Bie Ografee's talk show to tell about the life of a groundhog and the history of the holiday, Groundhog Day. "Audience" members ask questions of the guest who hopes to get a job as a weather forecaster like many of her famous "cousins".

Groundhog Day is celebrated in the USA and Canada on February 2nd. I address this fact in the play.

South Korea: A Webquest

South Korea is in the News. This would be a great opportunity to introduce students to the county of South Korea. In 2018, South Korea, also hosted the Winter Olympics.There are 11 web questions, lots of Did You Know? facts, comprehension questions and a teacher page with 7 extension activities. Want to introduce your students to the history of April Fools' Day? This resource provides a reading for students as well as lots of interesting famous April Fools' Day pranks such as this one that happened in Switzerland in 1957.A news show aired a video on a spaghetti harvest in the country of Switzerland. People were pulling strands of spaghetti dangling down from trees. People actually called the news show asking how they could purchase a spaghetti tree! Additionally, there are extension activities as well as a Test your April Fools' Day IQ(can you spot the True News Stories from the Fake ones?). There are also comprehension questions for the students to answer after reviewing the resource.One class period for Grades 4 and up.

This unit is designed for students with intellectual disabilities and autism but can be used in general education elementary grades or ELL.

Each book has 3 different levels. Level 1 of the text contains pictures over text. The text's assessment/comprehension test is available in 4 different levels. Select activities have multiple levels of support (color-coded, cut and paste, write-in).
