9th Grade Social Studies & History Interactive Notebooks

Students will become familiar with 11 maps and 4 map projections. This is an interactive notebook activity that students can use throughout the year to refer to. It is suggested that students complete 3-4 per class period.

This is more than simply reading the maps, but asking questions that will have students become familiar with and be able to recognize and make connections. This lesson asks connection questions such as: What does the word "plat" mean? What do you think this is called a plat map? What does this map use to communicate information? Why would this map be referred to as a locator map?

If you wish, you could modify this lesson to be a carousel activity instead of an interactive notebook activity, placing the maps around the room and having students move from one station to the next. Modify to meet your students needs.

What exactly is impeachment? In U.S. History, only three presidents have been impeached. Those presidents were Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump(impeached twice). None were convicted during a trial and finished out their terms of office. President, Richard Nixon, was going to be impeached but he resigned, pressured by members of his own Republican party, before he was impeached.

Use this webquest to introduce students to the issue of impeachment, how the founding fathers determined the use of impeachment in the U.S. Constitution and the history of impeachment.

Genghis Khan united the Mongol tribes and invaded North China, Central Asia, Iran, and South Russia. His immense empire—four times larger than the empire of Alexander the Great—stretched from Hungary to Korea.

Based on information from the text decide whether Genghis Khan was an effective or an ineffective ruler. If you believe he was an effective ruler, design a commemorative plaque if you an ineffective ruler, design a “wanted” poster. Use evidence from the text to support your claim
