Ancient China Timeline Display Research and Sorting Activity

A great classroom display and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to the some of the key events and people of Ancient China. There are 40 posters or task cards that include many of the key events including the rise of the first villages on the Yellow River, the first emperor and the Qin Dynasty, the building of the Great Wall, and the beginning of trade along the Silk Road.

Introduction:
To help us with our understanding of voting we are going to have a Jolly Rancher Election.
We will start first with a General Election
Each person will anonymously get a chance to vote for their favorite Jolly Ranchers
The votes will be counted and the top three will candidates will be running against each other.
If needed we will have a runoff to determine who will be included.
First you will need to do a little research.
Using your computer take a look at the different types of jolly ranchers that are available.
Social Studies Lenses and their Point of View: 5th Grade Studies Weekly Week 1

Students will look at Social Studies through a different lens:
Students will research the different occupational uses for social studies specifically in from the lenses (the fields) of:
Students will use their research to write a supporting question from the point of view of their assigned lens. This is great practice to find the usefulness of social studies along a variety of fields. Students will be given a compelling question dealing with indigenous peoples in the United States from which to craft their supporting question.
Students will also be able to put their own stamp on their infographic by adding creative touches. This is true for both the print and digital version of this activity.
Follow up questions are great for early finishers, written assignment, or class discussion.
