Coupon Binder -Teach your students or children the power of saving money

By Regina Frazier

Save lots of money while shopping using coupons. This colorful, cheerful binder organizes your coupons and makes it easier for you to find just the right coupon you are looking for while out shopping. Teach your students or children in your household the value of saving money by saving coupons. Create your own coupon binder by using baseball card holders that you can find at many dollar stores or office supply stores. You can either use a two inch or three inch binder to set it up and place all your dividers in. There are two coupon sorting sheets available. Rather than flipping through the pages in your binder to insert coupons which can take a lot of time, you can use the coupon sorting mats. Once the coupons are all sorted, you can then place them in your binder. Children of all ages can help with sorting the coupons. Many kids can also help out with gathering coupons and cutting them out. Have your students write about ways they can help their family save money. There are a couple of writing prompts that you could use to have your students share ways that they can help their families save money. This does not necessarily mean just using coupons. It could mean saving money by turning off the lights when not in use, not taking long showers, or turning in cans for redemption. Some kids might write about a job they do such as a paper route, mowing the grass or shoveling snow. Some students might choose to discuss buying items on sale at the store and not demanding expensive name brand items."Older students can work on the total amount of savings from using coupons. They can also work on figuring out percentages to show how much money is saved during each shopping trip and totals for each month. Product Highlights:

  1. Understanding the Acronym:
  • Page 1: Students are asked to guess the meaning of the acronym SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) and write down their ideas. This engages their prior knowledge and gets them thinking about goal-setting.
  1. Learning the Framework:
  • Page 2: Provides a detailed explanation of each component of SMART goals. Students learn what each letter stands for and how it applies to setting effective goals. This page ensures they understand the importance of each element in creating realistic and attainable goals.
  1. Setting SMART Goals:
  • Page 3: Students apply what they've learned by setting their own SMART goals. They are prompted to create specific goals for their overall school life, math, and ELA. This practice helps them internalize the framework and see how it can be used in different areas of their academic journey.
