Spanish Verb Tenses Project for Review

By Specialty Spanish

This Spanish Verb Tenses Project is perfect to review all the tenses students have learned! Spanish students will write sentences in the present, past and future related to themes that are familiar to them. The rubric will provide fast and specific feedback so students can fix any mistakes! Students can complete this verb tense project individually or in groups. Teachers may assign this as one big project or in smaller parts.

Though teachers can customize (and either add or reduce these tenses), students will create 5 slides, each with 6 sentences. The 6 sentences represent the 6 tenses students have learned so far (present, present progressive, preterite, imperfect, imperfect progressive and future). Students choose a theme for each slide, such as travel, summer, food, etc. They write sentences in each tense to practice 1) how to form each tense, 2) connecting the name of the tense with what it looks like and 3) what each verb tense means in English. Students can customize the design of each slide as well! Students can keep their completed project for future reference as they continue their language learning.

The rubric is designed for teachers to tell students which slide and which tenses on each slide are correct or have an error to make feedback fast and specific!

Spanish Culture Points Project

By Churros and Croissants

The Spanish Culture Points Project is a student-centered cultural project that puts students in the driver's seat! This was one of my students' favorite projects to complete because it let them explore their own interests. It was also one of my favorite to grade because each one was different!

Students pick from tasks relevant to them like music, cooking, history, etc. Each tasks has points assigned to it so they must complete enough of these small tasks to total up to the grade they would like to receive (generally 4-5 tasks).

This project worked great for middle school and lower levels of language but could be adapted to upper language levels as well.

Duration varies. I assigned this as a take-home project. Several tasks can be completed in school, but not all. We took a 90 minute block period to present to the class. Some classes where students brought in speakers lasted longer.

Includes rubric to total points gained for project.

AP Spanish End of Year Art Project and Gallery Walk

By Specialty Spanish

So the AP Spanish® Exam is over... now what?? The end of the year means that you can do FUN and CREATIVE things with students that keep them interested and motivated! This digital or printable art project is a great way to end the year and let students show off other talents! We also get the opportunity to do some cross-disciplinary work and collaborate with colleagues if you choose!

First students choose a global challenge to research- one that interests them!

Next, students imitate a style of art to create an original work of art that uses symbolism to demonstrate the theme of their artwork.

Finally, students write a detailed description of their thought process while planning their work as well as what elements of symbolism they used and why.

When the projects are turned in, the teacher can set them up (around the classroom or in another spot in your school). Their descriptions accompany their artwork. Included in this project are a gallery walk note-taking table as well as comment cards. Students enjoy getting feedback from their peers! And the gallery walk chart helps them engage with the work of their peers and to think more deeply.

Another great option is to collaborate with an art teacher or another Spanish class. You can also simply invite other classes to view your gallery, and administrators too! Let them fill out comment cards for your students!

How long will this take? It really depends! You may choose to let students do a lot of the research and planning in class, but you can also assign this for homework.

I find that the making of the art has to be done at home so that they have access to the supplies they need.

The writing of the description can be done in class or at home as well.

The gallery walk takes at least one class period. If you have multiple classes participating, you could allow more time if you choose.

Who can use this product?

  • Students in Year 4 or AP® (though it can be modified for students who are not as advanced in their language yet!)

What's included in this project?

  • 1 page of teacher notes to help make this project run smoothly, for other ideas and modifications
  • Student instructions (in Spanish)
  • Student rubric (in Spanish)
  • Student planning sheet (in Spanish)
  • 1 page gallery walk template with a spot for student artist names and 3 thought-provoking questions for students to consider while they view others' projects
  • 1 page of comment cards (Google Doc) with 4 comment cards on 1 page (can be photocopied to make more)
  • a link to a Google Slides presentation which contains the Gallery Walk template and the Comment Card template, but also 5 options for backgrounds for students to write their descriptions in, to make them look nice and professional
  • All of these elements are fully customizable to ensure that each part is just right for your students!

AP Spanish Unit 4 Scientific Advances Oral Presentation Project

By Specialty Spanish

AP Spanish® students will love this presentational speaking project for Unit 4, Science and Technology! The project contains specific directions, a rubric, teacher notes, a graphic organizer, an example presentation and a participation chart. The oral presentation is designed to be motivating, interesting and fun to students- both as presenters and as members of the audience! This project is fully customizable so that teachers can make adjustments to ensure that this project is just right for their students! It can be assigned digitally or printed.

Science has made some pretty big advances in recent times. Many people know a little something about cloned animals or genetically altered food. This project allows the members of your class to choose a current and interesting scientific advance, research it to understand both the basics and the details, to understand the benefits and drawbacks of the advance and teach the other members of their class about the topic! Included in this project are teacher notes where there are multiple suggestions for how to engage students both during their research and during their classmates' presentations. In person, we use the Smartboard to present the visuals. If you have a large class and prefer not to have all groups present live, students can record themselves presenting. Then, use one class period for students to view the presentations of others.

This project is INCLUDED in the FULL UNIT 4 Lesson plans. You can find the entire 6 week lesson plan unit linked below!

Who can use this product?

  • Students at the Intermediate level of the ACTFL proficiency chart or higher

  • Scaffold student comprehension by asking presenters to create a visual presentation to go along with their oral presentation

  • Works well with Unit 4 or Unit 6 of the AP® curriculum!
  • Take it another step, or in another direction by turning this into a debate! Should we be cloning animals to provide more food? Is it ethical to alter the DNA of a fetus?

What’s included in this product?

  • Teacher notes/instructions/suggestions for this project
