Play French scattergories when you need quick, no prep activities to play with your class while they practice their French New Year / Nouvel An vocabulary, oral, and written skills. These categories games includes many activities with a French New Year vocabulary theme which work well as ice-breakers.

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them!

60 prompts for creating imaginative SI CLAUSES in French

There are twenty prompts for each of the 3 types of si clauses. These worksheets can be used in a number of ways. They can be a writing exercise, homework assignment, quiz, or paired speaking activity either in the classroom or language lab.

Use these three worksheets to prompt your students to create original SI CLAUSES using the present - future, imperfect - conditional, and plus-que-parfait - conditional past equations. You'll get one worksheet with twenty prompts per si clause type.

Do your AP French students need practice reading non-fiction in order to prepare for the test? Are you looking for interesting reading activities that can be done as class readings, independent reading, or free voluntary reading? Quick, easy, and engaging Jeopardy style game to practice French avoir expressions. This PowerPoint activity includes all of the bells and whistles! Your students will love playing this game with their classmates, and it will save you a lot of time when looking for just the right activity to keep your students engaged. This game is perfect for avoir expressions quiz and test review, and a list of expressions used is included in French and English (see list below).

If your students haven't learned some of the expressions, you can give them the list to review before playing or even let them keep it out during the game except when it's their turn to play. This game is editable if you would like to omit or add certain expressions. If you decide to edit, please only edit the vocabulary used and do not change around anything else or all of the functions will not work. You need PowerPoint for this game to work correctly.

It can be difficult for students to get the hang of using the imparfait and many will need a variety of activities and lots of practice to get it. This activity bundle will allow you to get a good foundation in forming the imparfait and includes a variety of activities for students to practice choosing between the imparfait and the passé composé.

Focused grammar unit - a great introduction to the imparfait. Includes a PowerPoint to teach the basics, a printable version of the notes, and activities to practice using the imparfait. Also includes a reading about life at Versailles during the reign of Louis XIV so students can see the imparfait in action.

Hidden images verb practice - A Google slides activity, students fill in the boxes with the correct imparfait form of the verb. If they get it right, a section of the image will appear.

Digital practice games - imparfait, passé composé or imparfait. Self-grading digital games that give students more practice choosing the correct form of the imparfait as well as when to use it. Games can be played in either Google slides or PowerPoint.

Reading activity - Les zombies attaquent - a short story about a zombie attack at the local high school. Students will enjoy the fun story and see the interplay of the imparfait and the passé composé.

Reading activity - Sidney Crosby - a short biography of the star hockey player. Read the article, answer the questions and determine the reason for the choice between the imparfait and the passé composé.

Conjugation charts and worksheets - 26 pages

Thirteen pages have four verbs each and space for taking notes and writing examples.

Seven pages have eight verbs each. Students write the meaning of each verb in English.

Three conjugation pages are formatted for quick written or spoken auto-évaluations.

Pages with conjugations are included so that students can check their written work, or a friend can follow along while listening.

Students can keep track of their progress on the last page. You may suggest trading papers with a partner.

Crossword puzzles - 5 pages

There are 5 mots-croisé activities to make sure students know what the verbs mean. Clues are infinitive written in English. Fill in the crossword puzzle with French infinitives.

Sudoku puzzles - 50 pages

Sudoku puzzles are for conjugation practice. There are individual puzzles for all of the verbs except “falloir” and “pleuvoir” as they are only conjugated in the IL form. Two versions are included for alternate conjugations of the verb “s’asseoir” so you can choose the one you like to use and teach!

Are you looking for a French imparfait and passé composé activity that your students will enjoy?  This reading comprehension activity focuses on the imparfait and passé composé in a biography of hockey player Sidney Crosby.  The reading includes a vocabulary activity for hockey terms used in the reading.

Sidney Crosby is one of the greatest hockey players with a career that has led to multiple medals and Stanley Cup victories.  But it hasn't been smooth sailing - he's dealt with quite a few injuries that have kept him off the ice for extended periods of time.  Learn about his career in this reading and activity lesson.
