H-Insertion FREEBIE - Speech Therapy - Articulation - Initial Sound Production

By The SLP Curriculum

This resource was created in order to help Speech Language Pathologists target initial phonemes at the word level.

The h-insertion trick can be an extremely helpful strategy to use when children are stuck at the isolation level of a sound. By producing /h/ after the initial sound, the child continues their air flow, making it easier to produce the following vowel. This helps them to eliminate the prior habit of producing the incorrect sound.

Find the Full H-Insertion Resource Here!

If you haven't tried /h/-insertion, download this FREEBIE and see it work it's magic!

H-Insertion can help target the following:

  • Phonological Processes: prevocalic voicing, gliding, backing, fronting, stopping, deaffrication, labialization, denasalization, excessive nasal emissions, initial consonant deletion
  • Motor planning and sound transitions for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech
  • Sound production for children with Dysarthria or weak articulatory musculature
  • Myofunctional disorders including frontal lisp, lateral lisp, limited lip rounding
  • Articulation disorders to target initial /b/, initial /k/, initial /d/, initial /f/, initial /g/, initial "j", initial /l/, initial /m/, initial /n/, initial /p/, initial /r/, initial /s/, initial /t/, initial /v/, initial /w/, initial "y", initial /z/

Secret Mission Behavior Management Activity to encourage positivity

By Until the Pieces Fit

Are you looking for an easy way to improve student behaviors? This is a fun, easy, print and go activity.

I use the secret missions with my students. Simply print the packet, cut out, and post the missions in your room (be sure to cover each mission with a "secret mission" card".

Then the magic begins. Each morning during your morning meeting time chose a kiddo to uncover a mission. Discuss the mission, the importance of it, what it looks like. I generally have a secret task force who also watches for the behaviors. Then when your children are "caught" they earn a party point/tally/ball (whatever reinforcer you use) for your class. Currently my kids are working to earn hot chocolate with toppings.

I hope this is something fun for you and your kiddos. Please be sure to follow me for additional resources and updates!
