Area Models with Fractions--Google Slides

By Colleen Burdette

Practice of a tricky skill:

My students struggle with understanding the concept of area models, especially when it comes to fractions. This activity helps students practice recognizing how the models can be used. Students will work with unshaded area models which have a variety of possible answers. They will also work with models which are already shaded to choose the correct expression.

Students can work with partners or on their own to find answers to the area models provided.

What's included:

  • Google Slide activity.
  • Answer Key to Google Slides.

How is this product useful:

  • Good practice for tricky skill.
  • No prep.
  • Assign on Google Drive or Google Classroom.

The bingo boards in this game all have fraction symbols in the blocks. If you would like a game with fraction circles on the bingo boards, you can find one here!

I have included 4 different sets of calling cards - with fraction circles, squares, strips and symbols. So you can choose the format you would like your students to match the fractions on their bingo boards to!
