How long does this activity take to complete?

It really depends on a lot of things. Estimated completion time is 30-45 minutes but it’s based on the kids’ puzzle skills, group size, and age. We recommend ages 6-10 years old.

How many kids can play at once?

Kids can play individually, with friends, or in large groups. There really is no limit to the number of players.

What if the kids get stuck on one of the puzzles?

First off, let them think for a bit! This is where critical thinking skills come in. If they get stuck, hint cards have been included in your download to guide them. It is advised that you preview the puzzles first, so you understand how to complete them.

Where do kids start?

Kids can start on any puzzles and complete the puzzles in ANY order!

How do you know if their answers are correct?

There is an answer key provided in the PDF.

How do I set up the activity?

Just print and play! Everything you need is included in your download. You don’t need locks (you can definitely prepare one if you wish to), envelopes, or special equipment. You can hang or hide the puzzles or just spread them out on the kitchen table.

Do I have to print out the game materials for every kid?

Nope! You ONLY have to print out the answer sheet for each kid or group. Just one set of the actual puzzles is all you need!

Students cite evidence to support the meaning and significance of identified symbols. Both graphic organizers are different in complexity. Many students have heard about the Declaration of Sentiments or might have even read portions of it. Now students can go behind the scenes with this primary source excerpt!

This primary source worksheet features a passage written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton in Eighty Years and More in which explains why she and Lucretia Mott decided the time had come to organize the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 which ushered in the Women's Rights Movement in the United States. Students will enjoy learning about the motivations behind the creation of the convention. Two questions follow the Guided Reading.

On the second page, the passage is enhanced with Meanings and Definitions in order to facilitate and improve understanding. A Differentiated Learning Option is also available for students.

The third page includes Background Information and an Answer Key. This is excellent practice in Primary Source Analysis and in identifying author perspective.

The discussion questions will ensure that each class discussion is focused and productive. Every discussion question is grounded in concrete textual details and challenges students to arrive at lucid interpretive insights! The questions lend themselves to a range of different pedagogical uses: 1) to focus students’ thinking prior to beginning a discussion, 2) to prompt in-class writing, 3) to assign written reflections for homework, etc. Guaranteed to elicit student engagement and foster deep thinking! The assignment sheet contains detailed instructions for how to generate a formalist analysis of a poem (analyzing how the poem's formal features contribute to its meaning). This kind of formalist analysis is exactly what students are asked to generate on the AP Literature exam! Sample paper included. (3 pages)
