ABOUT THIS RESOURCE

Picture Inference Task Cards

21 pages

PDF Zip File

EXCELLENT for ALL grade levels!

This resource includes:

40 Inference Picture Task Cards with Guiding Questions

40 Inference Picture Task Cards without Guiding Questions (same pictures)

1 Picture Inference Worksheet

*******************************

Making Inferences is a challenging skill to master, especially for lower-level students. This resource includes two sets of Picture Inference Task Cards (80 cards in total) that are differentiated to meet the needs of both lower-level and higher-level students. The pictures in these task cards are very relevant as students "see" these everyday images almost anywhere they go!

DESCRIPTION

▶️ The first set of 40 cards, which are the color RED, have pictures that students can use to make inferences. These RED Picture Inference Task Cards include guiding questions to help lower level students make inferences.

▶️ The second set of 40 cards, which are the color GREEN, have the SAME pictures that students can use to make inferences, but without the guiding questions. Instead, this set of Picture Inference Task Cards read: “What can you infer from this picture?” and “Why do you think that?” These questions require high-level students to think for themselves as they pay close attention to picture details.

▶️ Finally, this resource includes a Picture Inference Worksheet that students can use to record their inferences and evidence. Students can record inferences and evidence for two pictures.

▶️ This is engaging practice for your especially ELL and Special Ed students and is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.

Suggestions on how you can use the Picture Inference Task Cards:

1. Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Picture Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same Picture Inference Task Card number or you can distribute 1-2 task cards to each student to practice making inferences and citing evidence before reviewing.

2. Mini Lesson - You can load these Picture Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference, while paying closing attention to details. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to encourage inferential thinking. You can even use these task cards to discuss the difference between relevant picture details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these inference task cards during the guided practice portion of your lesson.

3. Exit Slips - You can use these Picture Inference Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 task cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.

4. Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test/question each other.” Partners not only ask each other to make valid inferences and support it with relevant picture details, but to be open to a variety of valid inferences that can be made from the same picture.

Count the Phonemes or Sounds in Words~Circus Peanuts, Phonemic Awareness K-1

By Regina Frazier

Students will count the phonemes or sounds they hear in picture word cards and place them on peanut bags. They will place the peanut word card under the number that represents the sounds they hear. This is a terrific phonemic awareness activity. Students need to know the difference between counting the sounds they hear in words and counting letters in words. I also find that many students often confuse counting phonemes with counting syllables in words. Students need to practice this phonemic awareness skill often so they can become better writers and their inventive spelling will improve. They need lots and lots of practice. Breaking words up into individual sounds is in many DIBELS testing that kindergarten students are expected to do.

You could use this activity on a pocket chart or

I updated this packet to include 36 pictures for students to sort into categories as they count the sounds they hear in words. There are extra peanuts for you to use if you wish to design new words to add to this activity. This activity also comes with an Answer Key.

You will receive the following:

  • Sorting mats for two sounds, three sounds, and four sounds
  • 36 peanut sorting cards with pictures and words
  • 36 peanut sorting cards with just the pictures and no words
  • recording sheets with primary lined paper (differentiated by the number of lines)
  • recording sheets with secondary lined paper (differentiated by the number of lines)
  • Answer Key

Test Materials for WonderWorks: Grade 3

By Peter D

This is a 96-page set of test materials to go along with the WonderWorks Interactive Worktext (McGraw-Hill) for grade three.

Note that these worksheets go along with the 1st edition published in 2013 with ISBN 0021297959. Please verify that you have the same edition before purchasing this product.

Part of the goal in creating these test materials is to help students prepare for standardized tests. When students take standardized tests, they often struggle with text-dependent questions because they have not had much practice with these types of questions. For each week in the Interactive Worktext, there are two weekly tests:

* page 1: comprehension questions (multiple choice), vocabulary, paragraph writing

* page 2: text-dependent questions (multiple choice)

After each unit, there are six pages of unit test materials:

* page 1: comprehension questions (multiple choice)

* page 2: vocabulary, paragraph writing, true-false

* page 3 - page 5: text dependent questions (multiple choice)

* page 6: paragraph writing

There is also an answer key included at the end of the file.

Worksheets for WonderWorks Interactive Worktexts:
