ABOUT THIS RESOURCE

Picture Inference Task Cards

21 pages

PDF Zip File

EXCELLENT for ALL grade levels!

This resource includes:

40 Inference Picture Task Cards with Guiding Questions

40 Inference Picture Task Cards without Guiding Questions (same pictures)

1 Picture Inference Worksheet

*******************************

Making Inferences is a challenging skill to master, especially for lower-level students. This resource includes two sets of Picture Inference Task Cards (80 cards in total) that are differentiated to meet the needs of both lower-level and higher-level students. The pictures in these task cards are very relevant as students "see" these everyday images almost anywhere they go!

DESCRIPTION

▶️ The first set of 40 cards, which are the color RED, have pictures that students can use to make inferences. These RED Picture Inference Task Cards include guiding questions to help lower level students make inferences.

▶️ The second set of 40 cards, which are the color GREEN, have the SAME pictures that students can use to make inferences, but without the guiding questions. Instead, this set of Picture Inference Task Cards read: “What can you infer from this picture?” and “Why do you think that?” These questions require high-level students to think for themselves as they pay close attention to picture details.

▶️ Finally, this resource includes a Picture Inference Worksheet that students can use to record their inferences and evidence. Students can record inferences and evidence for two pictures.

▶️ This is engaging practice for your especially ELL and Special Ed students and is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.

Suggestions on how you can use the Picture Inference Task Cards:

1. Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Picture Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same Picture Inference Task Card number or you can distribute 1-2 task cards to each student to practice making inferences and citing evidence before reviewing.

2. Mini Lesson - You can load these Picture Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference, while paying closing attention to details. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to encourage inferential thinking. You can even use these task cards to discuss the difference between relevant picture details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these inference task cards during the guided practice portion of your lesson.

3. Exit Slips - You can use these Picture Inference Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 task cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.

4. Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test/question each other.” Partners not only ask each other to make valid inferences and support it with relevant picture details, but to be open to a variety of valid inferences that can be made from the same picture.

Test Materials for WonderWorks: Grade 5

By Peter D

This is a 96-page set of test materials to go along with the WonderWorks Interactive Worktext (McGraw-Hill) for grade five.

Note that these worksheets go along with the 1st edition published in 2013 and 2014 with ISBN 0021297967. These worksheets do not go along with the revised edition published in 2020 and 2021. Please verify that you have the same edition before purchasing this product.

Part of the goal in creating these test materials is to help students prepare for standardized tests. When students take standardized tests, they often struggle with text-dependent questions because they have not had much practice with these types of questions. The text-dependent questions included in this set of test materials are quite challenging and require careful consideration within the context of each story.

For each week in the Interactive Worktext, there are two weekly tests:

* page 1: comprehension questions (multiple choice), vocabulary, paragraph writing

* page 2: text-dependent questions (multiple choice)

After each unit, there are six pages of unit test materials:

* page 1: comprehension questions (multiple choice)

* page 2: vocabulary, paragraph writing, true-false

* page 3 - page 5: text dependent questions (multiple choice)

* page 6: paragraph writing

There is also an answer key included at the end of the file.

Letter to Students for State Test Motivation/Reassurance

By Miss Yous Clues and Resources

This is a one page letter addressed to students to give them reassurance/motivation during the state test or any other high stakes testing. This letter explains to the students how proud you are of them regardless of the results. It goes on to explain to them how the testing only measures how much or what they learned during the school year but emphasizes the positive character traits of them that cannot be measured by a test.

This resource would be great to leave on the students desks the morning off the assessments to start the day off on a positive note or to send it home a day or two prior to the test to help take the pressure off them that may have been building up.

Test Prep: Standardized Test Question Stems Sorting Activity

By HuddleTeach

When you are prepping students for tests, be sure to help them understand what questions are asking.

One of our favorite activities for this is to sort test question stems by their focus. Making this an active lesson - rather than presenting students a list or reading one aloud - means students are physically engaged in the activity.

We use each set separately to match the text type we're teaching, but before the state test, we like to mix them all to see if students can determine the focus on a larger scale.

This set includes more than 160 question stems - taken from common standardized tests, including Texas STAAR, NY regents, and more - to sort for these types of texts:

  • fiction
  • nonfiction / informational / argumentative
  • poetry
  • drama

And includes question types around:

  • character
  • conflict
  • setting
  • inferring / drawing conclusions
  • figurative language
  • author's purpose / perspective
  • theme
  • plot
  • summaries
  • main idea, details, claims
  • text features
  • text structures
  • vocabulary
  • poetic elements
  • dramatic elements

User guide is included with a suggested extension activity.
