Creative Writing Graphic Organizers

This is a great practice of finding the student's voice. They get a writing prompt that explains that they are in charge of finding a new mascot for Easter. They get to brainstorm some ideas for a new Easter Bunny. Then they can use their graphic organizer to format their opinions and why their mascot would be a good choice. Once they have finished the graphic organizer, they can then continue the writing process and write out their essay. Included in this download is a writing prompt, 2 graphic organizers, choose which one works best for your needs. Then there are 4 different writing pages. 2 have titles already on them, 2 have a place where students can draw a little picture.

Description: This template can be paired with any writing prompt found on the internet! Students are meant to choose a writing prompt and glue it on their Creative Writing Worksheet. They may write during any of their free time. If the students meet the requirements dictated on the rubric, they can earn up to five extra credit points toward their writing grade! I even have students work in pairs, so I split the points they earn between them!

The rubric I use assesses the following:

• Spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, capitalization, spacing, and indenting.

• Creative writing rubric

This FREE photo writing prompt slideshow is sure to be a hit with even the most reluctant of writers. Each of the 3 photos is carefully selected to ignite the imagination and creativity of the writer, while the accompanying audio and sound effects add a new level of engagement to the experience. The Google Slides presentation requires no prep and can be projected on a screen, interactive TV or smartboard in slideshow (present) mode.

No matter what age, your students will love these 3 creative writing prompts. Simply select a slide to display for your students, turn up the volume as the embedded music starts to play (starts automatically), and then sit back and watch as the creative juices start flowing. In my own 5th grade classroom, I like to have my students silently brainstorm ideas before they meet up with partners to build a story. Sometimes we use the photo and accompanying soundtrack as a quick-write while other times we work our way through the entire writing process. Often, I’ll use my interactive TV to record student ideas and capture a word bank directly on the slide before sending the class to their seats to further develop their ideas.
