As a video production teacher, one of the most important parts of my class is to make sure that my students can write a script. Earning a Paycheck is a Life Skills and Financial Literacy unit with a provided text and activities. This unit is designed for students with intellectual disabilities and autism but can be used in general education elementary grades or ELL.

This Unit will teach students about how to earn a paycheck, how to read a paycheck, how to read a job ad, how to calculate gross and net pay, and much more.

This unit has an 11-page text in 3 different levels and a pre/post comprehension test. Level 1 contains pictures over text. Over 10 activities practicing identifying items on paychecks and paystubs, reading job ads, vocabulary activities, and much more. Each activity has multiple levels of support (color-coded, cut and paste, write in).

This unit provides opportunities for repetition in the classroom, which is essential for students with intellectual disabilities, as well as the use of visuals.

This Look Book Project is great to use at the end of the Elements of Design Unit or it can be a continuous working activity for students to work through as you cover each element throughout your unit.

Use: It can be uploaded to google classroom or any other platform that students can access to work on a google slides template. There is a slide with instructions as well as an example slide, and blank slide with the titles of each of the elements that the students need to include in their look book.
