Fahrenheit 451: Final Essay Assessment with outline and rubric for easy grading

By Nemos Nook

This assessment requires students to choose one of three provided writing prompts and write a 5 paragraph essay (or 4 paragraph essay for differentiation) based on their chosen prompt. They must include an introductory paragraph, 2 or 3 body paragraphs (depending on what the teacher assigns), 2 pieces of supporting evidence per paragraph with proper MLA citations and a brief conclusion paragraph. There is an outline included for them to follow as well as a 20 point rubric for easy grading.

This can be done entirely as an in class essay or the prompts can be given to the students before hand so they can prepare their evidence on a notecard to bring to class. This alternative tends to streamline the writing process if doing it in class; although I generally do not allow them to bring in any other written materials.

Compare and Contrast Venn Diagram Graphic Organizer

By Homeschool with Big Easy Homeschooling Mom

Graphic organizers can be helpful in being visual aids when students are writing.

  • Helps students focus on their thoughts for planning, decision-making, and writing an essay

  • Helps students see the connections, patterns, and relationships between facts, concepts, and ideas

  • Organizers provide a visual depiction for writers by showing them where each piece of the essay is placed within an essay

Venn Diagrams show the relationship between two ideas. A venn diagram can have two or more circles. When the circles overlap, the venn diagram shows the similarities between the two or more ideas. In the spaces where the circles do not overlap, it shows the differences between the two or more ideas.

I hope your students/children enjoy this compare & contrast by understanding the importance of why a graphic organizer is needed, as well as understanding the variables of a Venn Diagram.

Venn Diagram Graphic Organizer is in Google Slides, Powerpoint, and PDF formats.

Imaginative Writing Packet

By Shy's Sunshine Room

Description:

  • This is a packet meant to help students write their own imaginative stories. It contains eleven worksheets that will break down this process. You do not have to use every worksheet in this packet to teach the unit. Some worksheets will seem to cover the exact same concept, only slightly different. However, I realized that everyone has different tastes in how to teach, so I tried to give a few more options. It is difficult to say how long this will take. Every group of students is different. From the start to the final draft, I am assuming it will take two to three weeks.

Includes:

  • 11 different worksheets covering
    • Setting, conflict, resolutions, character, and plot development
    • It begins with asking students to delve into the topics based on their experiences, then moves into brainstorming, designing their own stories, writing their drafts, and adding revisions.
    • Each of my designs is included in the previews! No buying without seeing the whole package!

Persuasive Writing Package (Opinion Writing)

By Shy's Sunshine Room

Description:

  • This product is meant to provide scaffolding for students who are writing a Persuasive Essay. It has helped my students write almost twice as fast, now that they had very specific boundaries and structure. The Short-Writes helped my students realize just how varied and strong their opinions were. They created a stepping stone that set up the next step of brainstorming and writing their Introductions. The Introductions, Body Paragraphs, and Conclusions templates are easily stapled together as the writing process continues. When it comes to writing their Final Draft, this progression allows the students to do so with ample ease.

Includes:

  • 4 Short-Write templates

    • Topics covered: Things I Love, Things That Bug Me, Things That Should Change, and Things I Am Passionate About
  • Introduction, Body Paragraph, and Conclusion templates

    • Body paragraphs contain space for 4 paragraphs
  • Instructions and suggestions

  • Possible resources

  • Examples

  • Everything included in this packet is featured in the thumbnails!

Time:

  • I would suggest using these templates over a space of a few days. My class got through this in about a week with everything in this package. Now, we have our Final Draft to finish, so it might be a good plan to count on this entire process taking two weeks, depending on your students' ages.
