Colorful Semantics uses color coded cards to help children to learn the important elements of a sentence and how to join them together in the correct order. By visually representing each part of the sentence with a specific color, learners can better understand the structure and meaning of sentences, as well as the relationships between words.

Morning Meeting Picture Slides are important to utilize to develop strong relationships with students and peer-to-peer relationships.  The picture of the day allows for deeper conversations and the building of a strong classroom community, which in turn raises academic achievement skills. The digital resource has many diverse pictures where everyone can feel represented.

How I Use Picture of The Day

We use a picture of the day every morning during our morning meeting routine. The morning meeting slides are projected on our screen for all students to see. Students are asked to infer, visualize, synthesize, and create connections with the picture. Looking closely at a picture is an important reading skill for students to develop to create inferences about what they are reading. 

Additionally, The picture of the day can be used for writing prompts or centers. Students can look at the picture and write a story based on the picture. 

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners. You could assign one or more morning meeting slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.

4. You can choose to bring double sided or single sided but I prefer single sided for the little ones (you can always take out the page if they make a mistake…harder to do if they also filled out the entire other side…fewer tears for me, the better!)

5. Staple into booklets. I stapled along the binder spirals so they looked more authentic

1. You can print one image per page and make the books bigger

I used this resource with my Grade 1 and 2 students at the end of the year to celebrate our accomplishments and to create a book of our favourite memories. Students loved brainstorming ideas for the various pages. It's amazing what they remember and appreciate from the past ten months of school.

French Immersion teachers in the Kindergarten to Grade Three classroom and those teaching beginner French students. Can be used at the Grade 4-6 level with Core French students learning to segment and blend complex sounds.

I personally use these activities with 1st and 2nd Grade students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to them year after year with their students. Further, students can use the finger-spacing tool (in three different skin tones) to assist them in perfect word spacing. This is a basic science journal for kids in primary grades. There are journal entry sheets (one for kindergarten and one for first and second-grade use). I included our scientific method recording sheets as well. These sheets can be used as a stand-alone for use with science lessons, or they can be assembled into a journal if you prefer by making multiple copies and stapling them together. Included is a list of suggestions and thoughts from the Science and STEAM Team.
