This a great format for Sunday School, Children’s Church, Homeschool, Christian School and much more. I created it for our current home church plant. We use it in our children’s ministry time. I hope it gives you more confidence to plan and create a wonderful lesson for your kiddos to learn the Bible!

Students will learn about the needs of all living things when you show them and discuss our mini-poster. Then they will complete a living and nonliving sort. There are 12 beautiful photographs of animals, 12 of different types of plants, and 12 of non-living things. Each photograph has the name of the object printed underneath it. These can be laminated and cut out so that students can sort them under the labels living and non-living (also included). This can be done with the whole group, in small groups or at centers. If this is done at centers putting 6 pictures from each category out allows for the center to be done twice.

There are 2 follow-up worksheets at slightly different levels, so you can choose what is best for your individual students' needs.

Procedures:

1. Introduction (5 minutes): Begin by gauging students' prior knowledge of similes and metaphors. Encourage discussion and brainstorming.
2. Video Engagement (5 minutes): Introduce the concept with the educational video, "Similes and Metaphors" by The Bazillions. This engaging resource aids visual learners.
3. Definition and Explanation (10 minutes): Clearly define similes (comparisons using "like" or "as") and metaphors (comparisons without "like" or "as"). Provide examples:

• Simile: "Her laughter was as bright as sunshine."
• Metaphor: "The test was a beast."

1. Practice Makes Perfect (15 minutes): Distribute Simile and Metaphor Sentence Worksheets. Collaboratively complete the top section, then guide students to write their own similes and metaphors about themselves.
2. Creative Expression (20 minutes): Students will construct an "I Am" poem using their favorite lines from the worksheets. Aim for eight lines, including at least three metaphors. Share an example of your own poem for inspiration.
3. Closure and Assessment (10 minutes): Students will work independently on their poems while you address their questions. Encourage volunteers to share their creations with the class.

Writing a story is a perfect project that gives students time to use their imagination and share it with others. Using full-page summaries of singers like Shawn Mendes, Arianna Grande, and Katy Perry, students will have practice correcting these interesting passages while learning about their favorite singers.

*This product can be used anytime you need to stress the importance of editing skills. It can be used for many grades and ability levels starting with 4th or 5th grade through middle school and beyond.

*There are 3 passages for students to proofread and edit. Each passage comes with:

* An “I Spy” editing chart and checklist that specifies the number of errors.

* 3 Answer Keys so that students may check their work independently.

* Proofreading Rules Chart

* When to use Italics or Quotations Chart

* With this paid product, you will also receive an “I Spy” checklist that you can use when creating your own proofreading worksheets.

*It is recommended that students use a bookmark when searching for the errors, so it is easier to locate them. When the students are ready to use the Answer Key, they should also use a bookmark with the key.

Lesson Procedures

1. Introduction

• Engage students by asking about their familiarity with the terms "personification," "alliteration," and "tongue twisters."

1. Explanation of Concepts

• Define:
  • Personification: Assigning human characteristics to non-human objects, animals, or ideas.
  • Alliteration: Repetition of initial sounds in neighboring words.
  • Tongue Twisters: Phrases using alliteration designed for quick repetition.

1. Guided Practice

• Collaboratively write alliterative sentences using given keywords, e.g., "The cute crazy caterpillar crawled around the leaf."
• Discuss and identify examples of personification from familiar media.
• Practice classic tongue twisters, such as Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

1. Independent Activity

• Students write:
  • A personification sentence with an accompanying drawing.
  • An alliteration sentence.
  • Their own tongue twister.

Closure/Assessment
