Jack Prepares for School contains a 10-page story incorporating Life Skills. It includes a Vocabulary Word Wall, and Vocabulary Definition Cards. This unit is designed for students with intellectual disabilities and autism but can be used in general education elementary grades or ELL.

This story talks about Jack who is preparing for his first day of high school by going to the store and shopping for school supplies with his mom. While at the store Jack uses addition and subtraction to determine how much money he has to spend on the items he needs.

This story provides opportunities for repetition in the classroom, which is essential for students with intellectual disabilities, as well as the use of visuals.

Ever wonder what became of the Mayflower? The ship sailed with 102 Pilgrims over the Atlantic to North America, in 1620. If you are expecting to find it docked to some pier, or in a museum, you’d be wrong. That’s because the Mayflower most likely ended up as scrap wood and may have ended up in an old Quaker Barn in Great Britain! With this idiom matching game, students will view 15 English idioms which they may or may not have heard before. They will be asked to match the idiom definition to the correct idiom. Students can complete this activity digitally by making a numbered list and writing the idiom definition next to the correct idiom number. Students can also have a hands-on experience by printing the grid of idioms and the definitions. If you cut out the definitions, there is space to paste or tape them underneath the correct idiom. An answer key is included.
