Drawing conclusions refers to information that is implied or inferred. Students use important textual information to make meaning out of what is not clearly stated by authors/writers. Writers give readers hints or clues that help them “read between the lines,” since not everything is explicitly stated. Drawing conclusions enables students to move beyond simple decoding.

Drawing Conclusions is an important skill students need to master to enhance their comprehension of texts and “think outside the box.” Drawing conclusions is not only used in content areas, but also in problem solving, and in social interactions.

This resource features a combination of 44 Drawing Conclusions questions and question stems that cover the topics of character, setting, events, author, and quote analysis. They can be used as writing prompts, discussion/debate questions, or both! These Task Cards and Question Stem Strips can be used in a variety of ways and would make an AMAZING supplement to any lesson.

DESCRIPTION

  • 44 Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS - These Drawing Conclusions Question Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, writing prompt activities, formative assessment during or after reading, journal-writing, or even one-on-one with a teacher or parent/guardian! You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

  • 44 Drawing Conclusions Question Strips - These sentence question strips are beautifully created and feature the same Drawing Conclusion questions in the Task Cards. They can be cut, distributed, and used in many ways including distributing one or two to each student to think about, share their thinking and responses with a partner, or you can simply randomly choose a question strip and call on student to answer - Be creative!

  • LIST of Drawing Conclusions Questions
Also included is a 2-page LIST of Drawing Conclusion questions/question stems to allow easier access for teachers to read and select questions to work with. It’s like an overview page of the Drawing Conclusion questions listed in the Task Cards and Strips.

Understanding idioms in English (set 4) Boom Cards Digital task cards

By TamiaDesigns

Idioms can be tricky for English language learners or students with language learning difficulties to understand and they often need to be specifically introduced to them. This deck is a followup to sets 1–3 in my store and includes all 32 American English idioms from the first 3 decks. Although the format is basically the same and the same idioms are included, this is not just a compilation of the previous decks into one deck - all the sentences are different from the original decks. It can be used as a review of decks 1-3, or as a standalone activity.

Some cards ask student to identify the literal meaning of the idiom in a sentence. Other cards ask student to pick the idiom that best goes with the sentences. The cards are randomized, so a different selection of 20 out of the 64 cards will be presented in each round. (Please note that if you are assigning the activity via a "fast pin", all 64 cards will be presented to the students!)

The idioms included in this deck are: raining cats and dogs, cut corners, beat around the bush, bite the bullet, a dime a dozen, turn on a dime, wild horses couldn't drag me, get my goat, get your ducks in a row, hit the nail on the head, a piece of cake, think outside the box, all in the same boat, like a fish out of water, break a leg, all bark and no bite, bite off more than you can chew, on top of the world, throw in the towel, let the cat out of the bag, kill two birds with one stone, pie in the sky, all ears, under the weather, when pigs fly, couch potato, between a rock and a hard place, curiosity killed the cat, out of left field, walking on eggshells, over the moon, looking for a needle in a haystack.

Writing Linear Functions From Patterns BTC Thin Slicing Lesson | Grade 8 Math

By EZMath

This lesson has everything you need to teach a "Thin Slicing" lesson on writing linear functions from a visual pattern for 8th grade math. These progressively challenging task cards start students with simple picture patterns starting at Step zero and progress up to growing and shrinking patterns with large gaps in between each step. This lesson with printable task cards uses Building Thinking Classrooms strategies for teaching math created by Peter Liljedahl. If you have been looking to implement the Building Thinking Classrooms model of instruction, but don't know where to start, this is a great resource for you.

This lesson works great as an introduction to linear functions using visual patterns instead of the usual tables, graphs, and scenarios. Your visual learners with thrive as they are able to explain how they see each pattern growing, then connect that growth to the constant rate of change in a linear function.

This lesson includes the following materials:

  • Complete instructions on how I run a "Thin Slicing" lesson using Vertical Non-Permanent Surfaces (VNPS) in my own classroom.
  • 11 Full-Size Task Cards on writing linear functions from a visual pattern.
  • Answers for all Task Cards.
  • "Notes To My Future Forgetful Self" Student Notes Template.
  • Student Notes answer key.
  • "Check Your Understanding" student Exit Ticket.
  • Exit Ticket answer key.

Once the thin slicing lesson is complete, students can use the provided notes template to record their thinking, as well as complete a "Check Your Understanding" exit ticket to give you and your students formative assessment feedback on how they are understanding the topic.

If you enjoy this product, please leave a review and check out my other products. I will be adding more Thin Slicing lessons in the future based on this model.

If you would like to know more about how I use Building Thinking Classrooms in my own class, check out my blog. I am also creating and refining more thin slicing lessons, so follow my store or check back regularly to see what's new.

Picture Write in SPANISH

By ARIANA PEREZ

Picture Write in SPANISH

Are you struggling to teach WRITING keep your students on task, has never been easier!

How can you use this resource?

Remember you don’t have to use every single slide/page always use what suits your classes.

I provided a large range of images and questions to provide teachers with ample opportunities to provoke students to talk about an image. There are many more questions that can be asked.

Students can also generate their own questions and ask their should partner.

You can generate your own questions to ask your students based on their level.

Students can generate their own questions to answer themselves.

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.

You can change it up everyday or have a system for these images.

Some teachers like to print the entire PDF and provide class copies to their classes. What does this mean? Students walk in and write down about the image on their own journals without writing on the class copies. Teachers that chose to create class copies do them in color since they are a class set and not as expensive as if they provided a copy for each student.

Option 2: Teachers reflect the image each day as a bellringer/ bellwork when students come in. Students only write down what they see reflected on their journal.

Option 3: Some schools have a limitless amount of copies and teachers print a mini-book for each student to have. Remember you can print 2 slides per page in order to save copies. The images are rich and do require a lot of ink so I do suggest this option.

I have done class copies in the past and students would start writen away. I did this for an entire semester then switched it up. Like I said the options are endless you can use this to fill-in class time, practice for oral exams, for students to practice speaking with their peers, for students to talk about a picture out-loud to the class or to you. PICTURE TALK is awesome because there is not just one way of using it. Each year you can change it up; it is a product that is super worth it.

Spanish Winter-Themed Activities Bundle for Invierno

By Specialty Spanish

Are your students ready for invierno?  Have some fun with these Spanish activities for Writing, Speaking and Listening! Use the winter season to your advantage as students practice their interpretive and interpersonal skills as they talk about winter where they live and learn about winter activities in other parts of the world!

What’s included?

#1

Authentic listening activities for Spanish class can be so hard to find!  We want our students to practice their listening skills but we don’t want to spend an hour searching for a good video!  This YouTube video is about winter in Chile.  A young person takes us around his city and explains what winter is like there.  To check comprehension, students will answer questions as they watch. Students will make comparisons and discover similarities and differences between their own experience and the speaker’s experience in Chile.   An answer key is also included!

#2

These Spanish Task Cards are geared towards winter activities, vacations and winter holidays. Situation Task Cards are a great way to get your Spanish 1, 2, 3 and 4 students talking and using language creatively!  (These are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)

There are 20 different scenarios which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. The task cards come in 3 versions!  First I have a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class.  The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version. Slides come with helpful vocab that students may need to discuss the scenario.

These winter-themed task cards feature scenarios for present, past and future time frames.  Google Slides can be modified if you need to change something to meet your students’ needs!

Also included is a peer feedback sheet and a self-assessment sheet and a vocab list for both Winter Vocab and Christmas Vocab!

#3

These Winter Writing Prompts for Spanish classes solve a number of your challenges! Your students can work together in groups to write about Christmas and Winter Vacation, and it turns into a fun competition where everyone learns!  AND- you only correct ONE paper per group!!  Students help each other improve their writing as they try to increase creativity, detail, sophistication and accuracy, all while having fun!  These writing prompts can also be used individually.   Embed culture and traditions into your writing practice!  There are 3 prompts for Novice High level students and 3 for Intermediate Low students.  Scaffolds such as vocab lists, sophistication word charts and a graphic organizer are all included!

Who can use this product?

  • Spanish students in Year 2 and up

How can I use this product?

  • Play the video for the class on a projector or Smartboard
  • Assign the video via Google Classroom or other learning platform
  • Assign the comprehension questions by printing or posting to a learning platform

  • These task cards can also be used for writing prompts or assessments!
