9th Grade French Task Cards

French Relative Pronouns QUE - QUI - OÙ - DONT Challenge Task Cards Activity

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

This is a set of 140 French relative pronouns practice cards focusing on QUI - QUE - OÙ - DONT. These cards are so much more fun (and challenging) than classic worksheets. There's lots of repetition, and that's what our students need to practice and master these confusing relative pronouns. My students find it particularly fun to use these cards as a guessing game with a partner or small group, and even the mysterious DONT becomes a lot easier! Check out my QUI - QUE - OÙ - DONT Resource Bundle.

Each card displays an image, and beneath the image it is written how to say it in French. For example, C'est un lave-vaisselle. Students are prompted to say at least two sentences using relative pronouns to describe the image, and their partner(s) have to guess what it is. At the top of the card it may say C'est quelque chose que..... or C'est quelque chose dont..... and at the bottom of the card it may say C'est quelque chose où..... or C'est quelque chose qui..... Students have to finish the sentences using correct grammar, and they need to give enough information for their partner to make an intelligent guess.

In the beginning, it can be very difficult for students to formulate their own sentences, and that's why there are two sets of 70 cards included with this resource.

SET ONE: The cards have two clues already written on them. This is a nice way for students to warm up to the activity, understand how it works, and get in some valuable practice and examples. In this version, students read the clues to their partner(s) and soak in the grammar while their peers practice their listening skills.

SET TWO: These are the same cards, but the clues are not written on them. Students will have already practiced with SET ONE, and should be able to come up with their own sentences (and if they remember the ones from SET ONE... all the better)! The only clues they are given is whether they should follow the prompt with a subject or verb since those rules can be tricky and hard to remember.

These practice cards provide a quick NO PREP activity that you can use for years to come. You have the option of printing and cutting out the cards (4 per page - laminate if possible) or having students use the PDF file on their devices (1 per page).

Included:

70 numbered practice cards with clues - 4 per page for printing and cutting out

70 numbered practice cards with clues - 1 per page for projecting or online use

70 numbered practice cards without clues - 4 per page for printing and cutting out

70 numbered practice cards without clues - 1 per page for projecting or online use

ALWAYS PREPARED…

Speaking prompt cards are my "go to" resource when I want to get my students talking to each other in French, from beginner to advanced levels.  There's something about changing up the routine from boring desk work that is very motivating to students.  They appreciate working with partners or small groups, and YOU will really love hearing them practice all of the grammar and vocabulary they've been learning while SPEAKING French.

ALWAYS PREPARED…

You will be able to pull out this set of cards again and again, year after year, as you teach and reteach grammar and vocabulary.  It's never a bad idea to pull out a random stack even with your more advanced students to give them a solid review of certain things they may have forgotten.

French Passé Composé with Avoir Challenge Task Cards Activity

French Passé Composé with Avoir - Regular Verbs - 75 Practice Cards

This resource includes two sets of 75 task cards for practicing the passé composé of regular ER, IR, and RE verbs. Half of the cards in each set use negation (ne...pas / ne...jamais / ne...pas encore) and the other half do not. One set of cards includes hints as to what the infinitives mean as well as an English translation, and the other set does not. I like to let my students use the cards with the hints as they're becoming comfortable with the rules and the infinitives used on the cards. Once they've gone through the set a few times I like to switch to the set with no hints. They'll learn so many more regular verbs than they ever would in a textbook. Check out my passé composé bundle and save!

75 practice cards with translations in English

75 practice cards without English translations

Answer key and student response sheet

You also get paper free sets that students can open up on their devices as well as sets with 4 cards per page that you can print and cut to have students work with them either individually or with partners / small groups.

French Present Conditional Lesson - Should, Could, Would

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

French Present Conditional Lesson - Should, Could, Would

This resource includes the following:

A set of 25 numbered cards with sentences written in English that students will then translate to French. A numbered answer key is also included so that students can work on their own. It is expected that students also know the imperfect tense and some simple pronouns that are normally taught way before the conditional.

A one page printable reference guide that folds into a booklet that students can use for easy reference. The booklet includes all of the essential information needed for saying should, could, and would.

A one page study guide on forming the present conditional that highlights how to say should, could, and would. The study guide also includes the imperfect endings, a chart of the most common irregular stems in the conditional, and twelve examples in French and English

Here's the link to my video tutorial on how to use should, could, and would in the present conditional. To get right to the lesson without all of the extra talk (it's my YouTube channel) just start at :57 and end at 13:15. The study guide included with this resource follows the information given in the video lesson.

Just click here if you are interested in a similar resource for the French past conditional - should have, could have, would have.

➯ This resource is included in my French 3 & 4 curriculum: Ça y est, je parle français!

Advanced French Reflexive Verbs Challenge Task Cards Activity

Advanced French Reflexive Verbs - 40 Practice Cards - Present - Past - Future

This resource includes 40 practice cards to help your students learn and master how to use 40 different French reflexive and reciprocal verbs in the present tense, passé composé, and futur proche. This set of cards is more advanced than my beginner level set because many of the verbs used are idiomatic, and special grammar rules apply to many of the cards in the passé composé (body parts, faire causative, indirect objects). This resource is an excellent way to challenge your more advanced students who have already learned how to use basic reflexive verbs. Each card displays a verb in the infinitive that students should conjugate in the 3 tenses. This resource is included in my reflexive verbs bundle.

The answer key includes the present tense, the passé composé, and the futur proche.

Included:

  • 40 practice cards
  • Answer key
  • List of 40 verbs in French and English
