9th Grade Ancient History Projects

The project is divided into fourteen sections, including the front pages. Sections include Language/Population, Habitat/Geography, Family Structure, Government, and several others. Each section has a list of criteria and questions that must be answered to complete the section.

I would expect a single student to take about ten weeks, with a weekly goal (perhaps a little faster) of completing one section.

There is a score for each section and teacher info on ways to make it work.

The project contains a cover sheet, a teacher's page, two student pages and a sheet to help students select an appropriate civilization.

There is also a list of civilizations that have an abundance of information available on line.

This project-based assignment gets students to research and interact with the vocabulary_, people, places, and concepts of Ancient Mesopotamia in a fun way. I have done this for over 10 years at the middle school level and it's been a BIG hit! Now at the high school level at a VPK - 12 school, my_ freshmen are so excited to present to the VPK4 kiddos at the lower school. Whether you present the books or not- this is a huge hit and great for comprehension_!_

Expectations

Step One

You will need to pick ONE item for each letter of the alphabet. For several letters, there is only one choice.

Step Two
For each letter, you need to: Explain what or who it is / was. You need to explain why this person, place or item was an important part of Mesopotamia’s history. Write a minimum of 2 sentences and a maximum of 5 for each explanation Draw a picture and neatly color it

Step Three
Complete a title page. (must include title, picture, your name and color)

Options:

Students get the option to complete the book on paper of some like to do it digital. My students loved using Canva to create their ABC books and print them out.

Mesoamerica Visual Vocab

Learning Goal: Students will be able to describe the emergence of advanced civilizations in Meso and South America.

Essential Question: How were the civilizations in Meso and South America similar to Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China?

SS.6.W.2.10 Emergence of advanced civilizations in Meso and South America.

SS.6.G.2.3 Relationship of physical geography to ancient river valley civilizations.;

Directions: Provide a definition from the Quizlet for each concept. Then draw a picture, symbol, or pictoword in each box representing a system of government you learned in this lesson. Use the Quizlet for the definitions.
