Tener Idioms Powerpoint with Pictures | Google Slides and PowerPoint

By Senorita Creativa

Do you struggle to present new vocabulary in a comprehensible way while staying completely in the target language? Then this fun PowerPoint™️ presentation is a great way to introduce or review tener idioms with your elementary or secondary class. There are 23 terms represented on individual slides (plus a title page and a terms of use page). Links to the Google Slides™️ version of the presentation are also included in this zipped file.

The terms represented include:

  • tener que
  • tener ganas de
  • tener hambre
  • tener la culpa
  • tener vergüenza
  • ...and more!

Each slide is animated so that the picture appears first, followed by the Spanish term. The presentation is almost completely free of English, but still very comprehensible, thanks to the great clip art. My students really enjoy when we use this as a review with whiteboards. Make sure to check out the preview for a complete list of terms. Please note that the terms in the presentation are NOT editable, although slides may be deleted or rearranged.

**Please note that the pictures in the animated slideshows are covered by white boxes that are animated to disappear when in presentation mode. When viewing the presentation in any mode other than “presentation mode”, it looks like there aren’t any pictures.**

Spanish Scenarios Accident and Injury Task Cards For Speaking and Writing

By Specialty Spanish

Situation Task Cards are a great way to get your Spanish 2, 3 and 4 students talking and using language creatively!  These cards are geared towards accidents and injuries (Realidades 2 has a unit on Accidents and Natural Disasters, but these are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)

There are 20 different scenarios which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. Included on the cards are words that students may need, but perhaps may not be part of a vocabulary list. The task cards come in 3 versions!  First I have a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class.  The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version.

Also included is a peer feedback sheet and a self-assessment sheet!  And best of all, all parts of this resource can be edited to suit your students’ needs!

Who can use this product?

  • Appropriate for students in Spanish 2, 3 and 4
  • Intermediate Low

How can I use this product?

  • Teacher ideas included in the slides!
  • Pair students and have them take turns telling stories based on their scenario
  • Ask students to give peer feedback or self-assess
  • Display task cards on your Smartboard for the class.  Have one partner make up a story.  Set a timer and challenge them to try to talk the entire time!  Change the slide and have the other partner take a turn!
  • Use these task cards as multiple versions of a speaking assessment.  This allows for student choice and/or prevents students sharing the exact task for advance preparation.
  • These task cards can also be used for writing prompts!

What’s included in this product?

  • Teacher instructions and ideas for how to use these Situation Task Cards
  • Version 1: 20 digital slides to be presented to the class
  • Version 2: 20 printable cards in an attractive color
  • Version 3: 20 printable cards in black and white
  • Vocabulary to facilitate speech
  • Peer Feedback document
  • Self-Assessment document
  • All parts of this resource can be edited!

Spanish Write, Speak and Listen Activity for Any Level

By Specialty Spanish

This product contains a 3-part activity to practice writing, speaking and listening for any level of Spanish!  Use these Google activities for distance learning or for students who are in person. Increase motivation and proficiency on the ACTFL scale with this digital activity!

First, students write a short story about a picture related to the unit theme.  They follow a small list of requirements that are fully customizable.  (This activity is written to ask students to use the future tense, but with a few key strokes, this activity can be changed to any tense!)

Next, students will record their story using a recording website.  My students use vocaroo.com.  They will link their recording in a chart.  (There is a sample class chart included in the instructions.)  Students will also create comprehension questions for their story and list them in their chart.

Last, students will listen to a classmate’s recording and answer the accompanying questions. They can use the included peer feedback sheet to offer constructive comments on specific elements of the recording!

I used this during 3 time periods: the writing was done in class, the recording was done for homework, and the listening was done in the next class.  Teachers with block classes could use this activity in one class.

Who can use this product?

  • Students at the Novice level and up

How can I use this product?

  • Use over the course of 3 learning periods or group the activities into one longer learning period
  • Student choice improves motivation!
  • Set students up for success for moving to the next ACTFL proficiency level with the sophistication words resource
  • Customize this activity to whatever unit or grammar you’re studying and use it over and over again!
  • Differentiate by providing student instructions in Spanish or English, or by changing the requirements
  • Encourage class camaraderie by allowing students to participate in helping each other improve
  • Ensure that all students get constructive feedback about what they’re already doing well, and what areas they should focus on improving

What’s included in this product?

  • Complete teacher instructions
  • Fully customizable student instructions in English
  • Fully customizable student instructions in Spanish
  • A linked in google doc with Spanish and English expressions for key words, sequencing words and transition words
  • A linked in peer feedback google doc

Students can view the video and write down answers in open-ended form, or they can watch the video in an EdPuzzle and answer the multiple choice questions.  (Auto-graded, by the way!)  The questions in this activity are written in Spanish, but the language level is basic and should be accessible to students from Novice High and up.  The video itself presents Spanish slang terms with explanations in English.

How can I use this product?

  • Assign this activity in class or for homework
  • Get students excited to learn "real" Spanish!
  • Have students complete the viewing guide where they fill in answers to have a document they can save for reference

  • Combine this with other activities to create a mini unit!

What's included in this product?

  • 1 link to a curated YouTube video (no bad words!)

How can you get parents, guardians and families involved in your Spanish class?  Use these templates to communicate with parents at the beginning of the year!  These digital or printable Google Docs are just waiting for your personal touch and details!  Start the new year with high parent engagement!

The first doc is a letter for families which introduces their child’s new Spanish teacher (you!) and asks parents to tell you about their child. **Parents love to tell you about their kids and being asked let’s them know right away that you care!

The second doc is a similar letter, but tailored for the parents/guardians of AP Spanish students.

The 3rd doc is a request for guest speakers.  Why not let our families know how much their life experience is valued?  Send this letter to find out if there are any family members, friends or colleagues that use Spanish in their lives!  **This document is part of my Spanish Back to School Survival Pack for Middle and High School bundle!!**

The 4th doc is a hand-out to give parents, perhaps at Open House Night?  It lists several ways in which parents can help their child succeed in Spanish class, even if they don’t know Spanish.  It’s a great way to empower parents and to give them actionable strategies to be involved with their child’s learning on a regular basis.

The last doc is a study guide template.  I send this via email about a week before an important assessment.  It’s a great way to keep families in the loop as we encourage them to be involved in their child’s Spanish education!

All of these documents are almost ready to send out!  You can edit and personalize all of them, and they can be printed out or emailed home.  Start your school year with strong partnerships and high parent involvement!

Spanish Verb Tenses Project for Review

By Specialty Spanish

This Spanish Verb Tenses Project is perfect to review all the tenses students have learned! Spanish students will write sentences in the present, past and future related to themes that are familiar to them. The rubric will provide fast and specific feedback so students can fix any mistakes! Students can complete this verb tense project individually or in groups. Teachers may assign this as one big project or in smaller parts.

Though teachers can customize (and either add or reduce these tenses), students will create 5 slides, each with 6 sentences. The 6 sentences represent the 6 tenses students have learned so far (present, present progressive, preterite, imperfect, imperfect progressive and future). Students choose a theme for each slide, such as travel, summer, food, etc. They write sentences in each tense to practice 1) how to form each tense, 2) connecting the name of the tense with what it looks like and 3) what each verb tense means in English. Students can customize the design of each slide as well! Students can keep their completed project for future reference as they continue their language learning.

The rubric is designed for teachers to tell students which slide and which tenses on each slide are correct or have an error to make feedback fast and specific!
