The graphic novel, Squished - The Graphic Novel by Megan Wagner Lloyd and Michelle Mee Mutter is great for children ages 9 - 15 years old, as they can relate with the characters. This is a book about friendship, getting along with siblings, developing interests, finding oneself, accepting and adjusting to change, starting a new school, moving to a new place, effective communication, being a good friend, being different from others and embracing those differences, having a big family and finding balance within that family. Comprehension questions and multiple choice questions are provided in this product and are separated by the books 13 chapters. An answer key is provided at the end of the product for questions asked in each of the 13 chapters.
The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and a few example sentences are presented in the product. These helpful cards are essential to providing every student with a silent reading book at all times! Whether you use the AR program or not, you realize that, as a language arts teacher, it is critical that students use their free time to read. There is nothing worse than having a child say, “I don’t have a book.” as an excuse to waste time. Possibly, the school library is not regularly scheduled for students, or they do not have a regular opportunity to visit the public library.
It had been mandatory in my classroom for all students to have a silent reading book at all times. When they would be nearing the end of a book or were unsure what book they wanted to read next, they would fill out a card and leave it on my desk. When I had the opportunity, I would look in my own classroom library and “hand pick” a book for them. students began to enjoy leaving me the book request because the books I would provide for them were completely suitable and of their genre interest. It saved All of us a lot of time! Students in my building had very limited access to the school library, and I truly enjoyed picking out very good literature for each student individually.
Have a pile of these small AR book request card handy for students to use throughout the day.…these cards are a lifesaver.

The Herdmans want to be in the Christmas pageant, which causes no one else to want to participate, but it turns out that them starring in the Christmas Pageant wasn't that bad. This is a great holiday book for students, and it also talks about friendship, acceptance, and helping others. The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text and each chapter. Students will have the opportunity to answer both short answer and multiple choice throughout each chapter. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and example sentences are presented in the packet. Students can also write sentences using the vocabulary words. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet. Words that students may need help with spelling when answering comprehension questions are provided in this product as well. Each chapters questions are divided up throughout this product. The book, Real Friends by Shannon Hale and Leuyen Pham is great for children ages 7 - 13 years old, as they can relate with Shannon, the friends she makes along the way, the friendships she struggles to maintain, the lack of self confidence she has and she becomes more confident along the way, learning that you can have more than one friend, the importance of friendship, how to handle stressful situations, anxiety, conflict, and bullying. Students will follow Shannon along as she figures out where to fit in at home and in school. The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and example sentences are presented in the packet. Students can also write vocabulary words in sentences. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet. An answer key is provided at the end of this product. Students can also answer comprehension questions towards the end of the packet as well that summarize the entire book.
