Introduction to Adobe Photoshop gives students a step-by-step tutorial to learn the beginning commands of Adobe Photoshop. After following the instruction (screen shots are included), students combine their “before” and “after” pictures into a simple PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to make grading easy. Finally, students complete a short creative activity to demonstrate their understanding of their learning. Real Estate Career Simulation: Flip a House Project lets middle schoolers see how real estate investors purchase, improve, and resell homes for a profit. Utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel, students “purchase” a home of choice from a list and then determine the improvements they want to make to it, all while staying within their budget. Then, they design the home, using Web 2.0 tools (www.floorplanner.com or www.homestyler.com ) or Sketchup (a free download available at: http://www.sketchup.com/download ). Finally, students use Microsoft Word to prepare a one-page sale flyer for their renovated home. Note: This lesson is intended for beginning Excel users and was created using Microsoft Excel 2016. It is easily adaptable for different versions.

The Sketchup Basics project takes students with no previous knowledge of Sketchup step-by-step through the basic commands and then challenges them to apply those skills in a project of their own. The project uses Sketchup (free CAD software download). Students work individually to create a scale model drawing of a house using Sketchup (CAD) and then create a new building of their choice using the skills they learned. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for younger or older students. Note: Sketchup does not work on Chromebooks.

In this lesson, students learn fun facts about Pablo Picasso and his art as they complete a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. Then, they use that knowledge to create an art project of their own, using Picasso’s style, in Microsoft Paint, 3D Paint, or one of these free Web 2.0 tools: SketchPad (https://sketch.io/sketchpad/) or SumoPaint (https://www.sumopaint.com/home/#app) that do not require download. A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Also included are tutorial links to assist students with the software for the art project.

A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Also included are tutorial links to assist students with the software for the art project.

This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary as well.

The Sketchup Basics project takes students with no previous knowledge of Sketchup step-by-step through the basic commands and then challenges them to apply those skills in a project of their own. The project uses Sketchup (free CAD software download). Students work individually to create a scale model drawing of three different chairs that meet specific guidelines and requirements using Sketchup (CAD). A step-by-step tutorial is also provided that may be used (optional) if you prefer students to learn the program in a more structured way. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for younger or older students.

This lesson allows students to use Microsoft Word, Google Docs or Canva to create a printable Valentine’s Day card. A complete, step-by-step instruction guide is included for Microsoft Word, a Quick Start Guide is included for Canva, and links are also provided to online tutorials for Google Docs and Canva. Also included are the project expectations and a grading rubric. This is a fun, creative project that reinforces technology skills while inspiring creativity in students. Different software options allow teachers to utilize available resources, give students a choice of which software they would like to use, and encourage new learning skills.
