Understanding idioms in English (set 4) Boom Cards Digital task cards
By TamiaDesigns
Idioms can be tricky for English language learners or students with language learning difficulties to understand and they often need to be specifically introduced to them. This deck is a followup to sets 1–3 in my store and includes all 32 American English idioms from the first 3 decks. Although the format is basically the same and the same idioms are included, this is not just a compilation of the previous decks into one deck - all the sentences are different from the original decks. It can be used as a review of decks 1-3, or as a standalone activity.
Some cards ask student to identify the literal meaning of the idiom in a sentence. Other cards ask student to pick the idiom that best goes with the sentences. The cards are randomized, so a different selection of 20 out of the 64 cards will be presented in each round. (Please note that if you are assigning the activity via a "fast pin", all 64 cards will be presented to the students!)
The idioms included in this deck are: raining cats and dogs, cut corners, beat around the bush, bite the bullet, a dime a dozen, turn on a dime, wild horses couldn't drag me, get my goat, get your ducks in a row, hit the nail on the head, a piece of cake, think outside the box, all in the same boat, like a fish out of water, break a leg, all bark and no bite, bite off more than you can chew, on top of the world, throw in the towel, let the cat out of the bag, kill two birds with one stone, pie in the sky, all ears, under the weather, when pigs fly, couch potato, between a rock and a hard place, curiosity killed the cat, out of left field, walking on eggshells, over the moon, looking for a needle in a haystack.

Understanding similes in English (Set 1) Boom Cards digital activity task cards
By TamiaDesigns
Similes can be tricky for English language learners or students with language learning difficulties to understand and they often need to be specifically introduced to them. In this online, self-checking, activity hosted at Boom Learning℠, students choose the sentence or part of a sentence from the left hand side of the card that best goes with the simile on the right hand side.
There are 16 similes, with at least two different cards for each simile. 12 cards will play in each round, so each round will be slightly different. (Note that if you are using "fast pins", all the cards will be presented in each round.)
Illustrated with photos, rather than clipart, this deck is suitable for all ages of English language learners as it does not look childish. With only one simile per card, this deck should be easier for students than Set 2.
The similes included are: proud as a peacock, dead as a dodo, clear as mud, easy as pie, wise as an owl, weak as a kitten, brave as a lion, flat as a pancake, like a fridge, light as a feather, sleep like a log, fast as lightning, hungry as a horse, sharp as a tack, stiff as a board, eager as a beaver.

Irregular past tense verbs Google Sheets Winter pixel art
By TamiaDesigns
English language learners, and others, often need extra practice with irregular verb forms. This engaging online pixel art activity in Google Sheets gives students practice with the spelling of irregular simple past verb forms. It is a self-checking activity - they will get immediate feedback as to whether they got the answer right or not. There are 20 different irregular verbs included in each of 3 different puzzles for a total of 60 different verbs. There are no question forms and no negative forms in this activity.
Each puzzle presents students with sentences with a verb in parentheses that they need to write in the simple past form. As students complete the sentences correctly, not only does the picture start to appear, but a ‘smiley’ image appears beside the word to confirm that their answer is correct. Once they have completed all the sentences correctly, in addition to seeing the completed picture, the sentence “You did it, you got them all right!” confirms that they have finished the activity. To teachers, this activity may seem like "just" a worksheet, but most students seem to be motivated by pixel art and the immediate feedback - my students asked for more after they were done with these!
You will get a PDF with links to make your own copies of each of the three puzzles.

Irregular past tense verbs Self-checking grammar activity in Google Sheets
By TamiaDesigns
English language learners of all ages often need extra practice to learn the correct forms of irregular past tense verbs. With 20 different verbs (all irregular past tense verbs) this self-correcting Google Sheets activity gives students the opportunity to practice writing past tense verbs correctly.
Students have to correctly type the missing verb in a sentence. A photo and other sentences using the same verb in different forms prompt the students as to which verb to use. As they enter the answers correctly, a scratch card on the screen is revealed. If a student has a winning scratch card, they win a trip to your prize box (or whatever other prize you choose to offer.) Not all scratch cards will be winners.
Both you and your students will need a Google account for this engaging online activity, but you do not need any prior experience with Google Sheets.

Irregular past tense verbs - asking questions (set 2) Boom Cards
By TamiaDesigns
English language learners often make the mistake of using the past tense verb form in the question instead of the base form of the verb (for e.g. "Did you looked for your book?") With 20 different verbs (all irregular past tense verbs) this deck gives students the opportunity to practice asking past tense questions correctly. It also exposes them to the irregular past tense of 20 verbs while only asking them to produce the base form, which they may already be more familiar with. I have other decks in my store, "Irregular past tense verbs - answering questions" that would be a good follow up to this one.
Illustrated with photos, rather than clipart, this deck is suitable for adult English language learners as well as children as it does not look childish.
Verbs included in this deck:
bite - bit burst - burst buy - bought catch - caught cost - cost feed - fed forget - forgot hang - hung kneel - knelt lose - lost make - made ride - rode ring - rang say - said shrink - shrank shut - shut sweep - swept take - took wake - woke write - wrote

Regular simple past tense verbs with audio Boom Cards online activity
By TamiaDesigns
This activity gives students the opportunity to listen to and then write the simple past form of 20 regular verbs. It is particularly useful practice for those students who over generalize and read aloud every -ed ending as -id (or -did!) Students listen to the recording of the sentence and decide what sound the final -ed in the verb makes: -t, -d, or -id. (Multiple choice question.) They then complete the sentence on each card in the past tense by typing the given verb.
Illustrated with photos, rather than clipart, this deck is suitable for adult English language learners as well as students from grade 2 and up as it does not look childish. It is especially good practice for English language learners, who may not know what these verb forms sound like.
There are 20 cards total with a different verb on each card.
I have a version of this activity without the audio support, and other decks in my store that focus on irregular past tense verbs, that would be a good follow up to this one.

Understanding similes in English (Set 2) Boom task cards digital activity
By TamiaDesigns
Similes can be tricky for English language learners or students with language learning difficulties to understand and they often need to be specifically introduced to them. In this online, self-checking, activity hosted at Boom Learning℠, students will see 3 similes and 6 sentences on each card. Their job is to choose the sentences that go best with each simile and drag and drop to match. They must get all 3 right on the card to get the card correct, so this deck is harder than Set 1 that only has one simile per card.
Each round is only 5 cards as that's 15 questions. They will need to play multiple times to see all the similes. Some similes will appear more than once in different sentences to reinforce their meaning.
Illustrated with photos, rather than clipart, this deck is suitable for all ages of English language learners as it does not look childish.
The similes included are: as proud as a peacock, as sick as a dog, as busy as a bee, as tough as nails, as cool as a cucumber, as free as a bird, as easy as pie, as light as a feather, as stiff as a board, as dead as a dodo, like a fish out of water, as wise as an owl, as weak as a kitten, as strong as an ox, as clear as mud, like a fridge, as eager as a beaver, as skinny as a rake, as gentle as a lamb, as hungry as a horse, as warm as toast, as brave as a lion, as fast as lightning, sleep like a log, as slow as molasses, like a sauna, as white as a ghost, as blind as a bat, as proud as a lion, as brave as a lion, as hungry as a lion

Irregular past tense - answering questions (set 2) Boom cards
By TamiaDesigns
English language learners, and others, often need extra practice with irregular verb forms. With 20 different irregular verbs, this activity gives students the opportunity to practice answering past tense questions correctly. Students complete the answer on each card in the past tense by typing the correct form of the verb in the question. Check out the link in the preview to see the first 4 cards in the set.
Illustrated with photos, rather than clipart, this deck is suitable for adult English language learners as well as children as it does not look childish.

Speech With Dana says: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is one of the most useful products I have bought! This is resource is AWESOME for students who are grasping irregular past tense verbs but need more activities for generalization for using them in contexts other than just fill-in-the blank sentences in statements. This helps them to understand how to use it in a context that we use in real-life, every day situations.
melissa M says: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love that they don't select the correct form of the verb, but have to think of it on their own!
