High Hopes, Panic! @ The Disco - Rhythm Stick Read-a-long!

All you got are rhythm sticks for classroom equipment? Or do you need something else to do with them other than keep a steady beat?
Put some creativity in your lesson with a rhythm stick read-a-long featuring the Top 40 hit from Panic! @ the Disco's revival album, "High Hopes"!
In this resource, you will see the entire arrangement structured across 5 slides in coded colors with the corresponding repeats. There will be eight boxes that hold each beat along with one of three action icons.
- Sticks - Click your sticks together
- Quarter Note - Hit your sticks on the ground (or chair or desk or lightly on your lap)
- Eighth Notes - Hit your sticks on the ground (or chair or desk or lightly on your lap as a pair of eighth notes)
- Quarter Rest - Rest
Teach the entire thing line by line through a rote method and play through at the end!

WHY IMAGINE DRAGONS?
- Great compositions, safe for ears, and engaging music for all grades (battle anthems for most of the boys as well -- surely a hit for them!)
Arrangements are designed from 4th grade all the way up to middle school, so these are typically designed for some of the older kids.
For notation:
All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish),
The X notation that is stacked with quarter notes are played as shots (think like a marching band snare drum -- playing the drum and stick simultaneously as a rimshot or on top of each other -- whatever will you get you the best accent!)
The X notation (with a down stem) are played as stick clicks above their head (or you could apply it to a tambourine or other auxiliary instrument)
For the Rhythm Basketball:
Your students will each have a basketball (can be regulation size or smaller) and bounce their ball on the ground each time they see an ornament icon. Each ornament icon is denoted as a quarter note. The rests are in between each ball for the students to hold the ball. Any smaller ornaments (grouped in two) will be played as 2 eighth note pairs and students will have to lower themselves a foot or two to dribble eighth notes on the floor
There's also a "pat" icon with a hand below the ornament icon itself, so you will have the student hold the basketball in one hand and pat the ball on the beat
Eric Carle Activities: Lesson Extensions for Music Class

Using these lesson extensions for the books "'Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,' said the Sloth", "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", and "Does the Kangaroo Have a Mother, Too?" teach fast vs. slow, triplets, and rhythm vs. steady beat. Use the extension lesson for "Rooster's Off to See the World", "Dream Snow" and "The Very Lonely Firefly", to introduce and review the so-mi-la and mi-re-do solfege combination. Use lessons for "From Head to Toe" and "Little Cloud" to move and explore shapes in your classroom. Use "The Very Quiet Cricket" to teach steady beat and whisper voice. Finally, use the book "Pancakes, Pancakes" to teach sixteenth note rhythms. Have the children move and play along, and then reinforce their knowledge with additional worksheets. Adaptable for grades PreK-3rd grade. Worksheets can be printed or used digitally.

Quarter Rest Lesson Book Bundle

Using these classic books, teach your students about quarter rest! Sing/chant/play along with the rhymes I wrote for the books and add in rhythm sticks for fun! Then use the beat charts and worksheets to reinforce decoding skills as well as teach students to listen and recognize rests as well as practice writing them. How Far I'll Go, Moana (**BEGINNING BUCKET DRUMMING**)

More on the hit list with your bucket drumming kids, we present the hit song from the 2016 Disney blockbuster film "Moana" in "How Far I'll Go"!
- This version specifically targeted and tailored for beginning bucket drummers can be used for younger students who are not familiar with the triplets, may not have the coordination for alternating hands, or who just want to step right into the drumming circuit with a bit more ease! All notation in this arrangement are quarter notes and quarter rests
There are three all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 3 or 4 times). Then, apply it to drums!

ABC, Jackson Five (** BEGINNING BUCKET DRUMMING! **)

An old standard in the 70's revamped for your kids! Involve them in bucket drumming with the Jackson Five smash hit, "ABC"
This version specifically targeted and tailored for beginning bucket drummers can be used for younger students who are not familiar with the sixteenth notes, may not have the coordination for alternating hands, or who just want to step right into the drumming circuit with a bit more ease! All notation in this arrangement are quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests
There are three all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 2 or 4, times). Then, apply it to drums!
All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish), and the X notation (with a down stem) are played as stick clicks above their head (or you could apply it to a tambourine or other auxiliary instrument)
This one is quite advanced and may take a few lessons to get solidified. Sixteenth notes galore in ABC, so you can work on alternating hands for your kids -- great lesson to teach steadiness of rhythm! :)

Social Emotional Learning Lesson Using It Will Be Ok Book
By Creating Musical Literature
Use this book to discuss anxiety and what your students can do to manage it when they experience it. Then sing the song and have the students literally rise up and then wave to each other when you are singing those lines to bring the class together as a community. Repeat as many times as necessary. Feel free to use with or without the book throughout the year. For students in grades PreK-3rd.
