A "Pocket" Full of Kindness - An SEL Activity that focuses on kindness and the idea that you can take it with you wherever you go and "pull it right out of your back pocket" as the saying goes!! This activity is great for younger elementary students who are getting an introduction to all things kindness and all of the different ways that they can show kindness to others! For this activity, you will need string and scissor to help make it the most successful! My students LOVED being able to put their very own pocket together! I love the hands-on lessons as much as they do!

Kirsten Tulsian has 18 years of experience in elementary education. She has been a homeroom teacher for first grade, third grade, and fourth grade, as well as ESL. She has also been a school counselor for grades PK-6, an ESL pullout teacher for K-6, and a Reading Recovery Teacher. She received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and psychology from The University of Iowa and a Master’s of Education in school counseling from Sam Houston State University. The Book of... sometimes ridiculous but also sometimes funny and waaaay better than doing coursework... Icebreakers! This ice break collection can be used for all school aged children and gives a wide variety of options for different classroom personalities and expectations!

Bring having a growth mindset and positive perspective to life with this activity! It is fun for the whole class and they get a great reminder to take with them! This activity comes set with everything you need to discuss and demonstrate having a growth mindset, perspective taking, and holding a positive point of view. It also pairs nicely with the short story (Rosie's Glasses), but can be used as a stand alone activity as well!

Talk about "which view would you choose" and then have students color away! Depending on the amount of time you have, have students cut out their glasses and glue the rectangles together, or use it as a fun take home follow up activity!

Community building activities come in handy at the start of the year... and beyond! This activity focuses on not only working together and building community, but also allows students opportunity to practice active listening skills with a focus on listening to understand and absorb information rather than listening to respond. This activity is great for the basics of get to know you and team building questions, but could also be used to answer more academic-based questions as well. It is fun, interactive, and engaging, which offers a fun change of pace to the classroom!
