Biomes Nonfiction Texts and Activities for Use with Google Slides™
By Science and STEAM Team
Biomes in pdf form has now been made for use in the Google Classroom™. You can share this resource with your students through Google Classroom™ or Google Drive™. Students can then type directly on this document and share it back with you.
This resource contains six non-fiction texts about biomes of the United States. The passages were written with third graders in mind, but the information is very interesting and would be useful for upper grades as well. Some passages are shorter than others and have less complex language so that you can easily differentiate for students.
There is a tips sheet for teachers and a recording sheet for students on which they can note where the biome is found, the average annual precipitation, the average temperature, and plants and animals of the biome. Students respond to a question asking if they would like to live and that biome and tell why or why not.

Continents and Oceans Boom Cards no-print digital activity
By TamiaDesigns
Looking for a geography activity that goes beyond writing continent and ocean names on a map? This NO PREP, self-checking, digital social studies activity hosted at Boom Learning starts by reviewing the names of the continents and oceans. Students hear the names as well as read them. Then your students will build their geography knowledge by identifying the continents (North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, Antarctica, Europe) and oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, Southern) using both shape and location.
There are 45 cards in this interactive Boom Cards activity hosted at Boom Learning. The first 4 cards introduce (or review) the names of the continents and oceans. The remaining cards quiz the students on these facts.
Cards 1-4 will always play first, and then cards 5-45 will play in random order. If you are using a FastPin, all 45 cards will play every time, otherwise 24 cards will play each time, so each round will be slightly different.
Card 1 - students click to hear the names of the continents;
Card 2 - students read the names of the continents for themselves (but can click to hear them if they need help.) ;
Card 3 - students click to hear the names of the oceans;
Card 4 - students read the names of the oceans (but can click to hear them if they need help.)
There are written and audio directions on each card, but the audio recording of the continent and ocean names is not repeated after the first 4 cards.
Cards 5-45 contain a variety of activities:
• Listen to the name of the continent or ocean and click on it on the map
• Identify which continents are NOT visible on the map
• Identify continents from their outline
• Drag names of oceans to the correct place on the map
• Identify the ocean marked by an X on the map
• Identify the ocean that is to the north/south/east/west of a given continent. (Those maps are marked with North / South / East / West)
• Identify which of the names is NOT a continent
• Identify which of the names is NOT an ocean
