Place value up to hundred thousands and down to hundredths Online activity

By TamiaDesigns

Need some online manipulatives to help students understand place value and decimals? Students practice identifying and naming place value in numbers up to hundred thousands, and down to thousandths in this modifiable Google Slides template. The first slide has 100’s, 10’s, and 1’s, and the following slides add 1,000’s, 10,000’s, and 100,000’s. Subsequent slides have tenths, hundredths, and finally thousandths. There are eight basic slide templates with variations on each, for a total of 30 slides.

You add the specific numbers you want the students to work with – you can choose whether to give them the number in standard form or words first. Numbers can range up to to 999,999 and decimals go down to thousandths. Your students will add the numbers to the correct columns on the chart, write the number in words, and also in expanded form. You can easily have students also give you the number rounded to a specific digit. Some of the templates are deliberately missing the headers at the top of the chart so students will have to add the words for the place value.

You could use this activity on an interactive whiteboard or project it in the classroom. You could share the file digitally with students as a no-print center to work on in class, or with students working remotely.

To use this file, you (and your students, if you plan on assigning them a copy of the file) will need a Google account.
