AP Spanish The Accidental Twins Movie Guide and 4 Follow Up Activities
By Specialty Spanish
Need a movie guide for The Accidental Twins? If you teach AP Spanish, this documentary goes perfectly with Unit 2, which examines Identity. This bundle includes a movie guide of 57 questions in both Spanish and English as well as 4 follow up activities. There is a graphic organizer for the characters, a class discussion activity, a personal reflection activity and an assessment with rubric. Use them all, or mix and match to suit your class’s needs!
The Accidental Twins is a documentary on Netflix that chronicles the story of 2 sets of twins from Colombia. One brother from each family was mixed up and went home from the hospital with the wrong family. When these babies are 25 years old, their mix up is discovered. It’s a fascinating story about one’s identity, what role genetics vs environment plays in a person’s life, and the emotions involved with the real people that this happened to.
You can play this documentary in Spanish or English, and subtitles are available. I recommend playing it in Spanish with Spanish subtitles on. It is 1 hour and 20 minutes long.

Spanish Questions Mini Unit Bundle Presentation and Activities
By Specialty Spanish
Spanish Teachers! Do your Spanish students struggle to form, understand and answer questions? This bundle of resources is a great way to do a mini unit on questions! A presentation, Task Cards and Writing Activities will ensure students practice all skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening).
The Google Slides™ lesson with Pear Deck™ makes teaching students how to formulate and answer questions fun and engaging! The slideshow shows students how questions can be worded in Spanish, both with and without interrogatives. It gives them a hint for the AAPPL test for the Seal of Biliteracy regarding questions, and there are multiple places in the presentation where students can interact and respond. This is great for keeping students engaged, but also lets the teacher know if students are understanding the presentation!
Included in this presentation about questions are 3 writing activities for your students to practice and apply what they’ve learned! Students can do the activities alone or in groups, or one of each! The activity I use as a group task is differentiated for different skill levels!
The Question Task Cards can be printed out or displayed digitally. Each of the 20 cards asks students to create 5 questions related to a topic. The topics are varied, and include themes that most Spanish students are familiar with: family, food, school, favorites, etc. I like to use these as a warm-up for class. And task cards can be used to ask students to write down their questions or to ask a partner! They’re so versatile and can be used over and over and in just about any level of Spanish!
All of these materials can be easily edited to meet the theme of your unit or level of your students if you want to change the vocabulary I use!
Instructions for teachers are included:
-How to get the Pear Deck Add-on
-How to use the Pear Deck Ad-on
-How to use the writing activities that are included

Authentic listening activities for Spanish class can be so hard to find! We want our students to practice their listening skills but we don’t want to spend an hour searching for a good video! This YouTube video is about winter in Chile. A young person takes us around his city and explains what winter is like there. To check comprehension, students will answer questions as they watch. Students will make comparisons and discover similarities and differences between their own experience and the speaker’s experience in Chile. An answer key is also included!
#2
These Spanish Task Cards are geared towards winter activities, vacations and winter holidays. Situation Task Cards are a great way to get your Spanish 1, 2, 3 and 4 students talking and using language creatively! (These are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)
There are 20 different scenarios which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. The task cards come in 3 versions! First I have a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class. The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version. Slides come with helpful vocab that students may need to discuss the scenario.
These winter-themed task cards feature scenarios for present, past and future time frames. Google Slides can be modified if you need to change something to meet your students’ needs!
Also included is a peer feedback sheet and a self-assessment sheet and a vocab list for both Winter Vocab and Christmas Vocab!
#3
These Winter Writing Prompts for Spanish classes solve a number of your challenges! Your students can work together in groups to write about Christmas and Winter Vacation, and it turns into a fun competition where everyone learns! AND- you only correct ONE paper per group!! Students help each other improve their writing as they try to increase creativity, detail, sophistication and accuracy, all while having fun! These writing prompts can also be used individually. Embed culture and traditions into your writing practice! There are 3 prompts for Novice High level students and 3 for Intermediate Low students. Scaffolds such as vocab lists, sophistication word charts and a graphic organizer are all included!

Spanish Travel and Vacation 5 Partner Speaking Activities
By Specialty Spanish
Spanish students need lots of practice to improve their proficiency in speaking. These 5 partner speaking activities focused on travel and vacation offer scaffolded ways to get your Spanish class talking! The assignments start simple and increase in complexity, requiring more creativity as they become familiar with the vocabulary and grammar. The activities are focused on the past time frame (preterite and imperfect).
Activities included:
1. Partner sentence translating:
This is a great way to start students speaking about travel and vacation. It’s basic and doesn’t involve a lot of creativity; students will just be translating sentences to practice vocabulary and verb conjugation. The benefit to this activity is that students help each other understand time frame since their partner has the correct answer.
2. Finish your partner’s sentence
This is the next step. One student will read the beginning of a sentence. The other student has to understand what was said and finish the sentence logically. This provides an opportunity for limited creativity with language and listening comprehension for both students.
3. Guided conversations:
Once your students are more comfortable with vocabulary related to vacation and travel, have them try this interpersonal speaking activity. Both students will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions as part of a conversation, but with a lot of scaffolding/guidance to build confidence.
4. Write, speak, converse:
As students progress with vocabulary and grammar structures, they will write a story according to some guiding questions. Next, they will use the ideas for questions to ask each other about their story. Students will answer each other’s questions out loud. At the end, there is a self assessment about how well they did answering their partner’s questions.
5. Travel and Vacation Situation Task Cards:
My absolute FAVORITE class activity! Situation task cards are SO versatile! They can be used in many ways, but here we have 20 different scenarios for students to talk (or write) about, all related to travel and vacation. These cards offer the most creative freedom for students, and therefore I have them as the last step. Of course, they can be used at various points within your unit- it would be great to point out how much students have improved from beginning, middle and end of the unit! There are many more specific instructions when you click the link!

Day of the Dead Dia de Muertos Scavenger Hunt Reading Game Spanish/English
By Specialty Spanish
Want your Spanish students to learn about Day of the Dead , but reading comprehension is getting boring in your Spanish class? Turn it into a game! This mystery-solving reading about Día de Muertos goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery! This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher! Use the same lesson plan for all of your classes, regardless of level, because your differentiation is already done!
Students investigate with Maria, a young person from Mexico, while she tries to understand more about a former member of her town. He visits the townspeople all year, not just during Día de Muertos. Why can’t he rest in peace? While they read the parts, they are also looking for “code words”. Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of how/why he died. It’s so much fun!
After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students. There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a graphic organizer for students to learn more about the specific items related to Day of the Dead, a “tell me in your own words” activity, and a writing follow up where students use their reading comprehension and critical thinking to invent an explanation for who this lost soul was and why he died the way he did. Answer key to the True/False is also included. Best of all? If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!
The reading cards are written in English for your Novice classes, and Spanish for Intermediate classes. The questions are written for Novice in English and answers will be in English as well. And for Intermediate, the questions and answers will be in Spanish. The same for the instructions and mission! Students get the benefit of learning about a cultural event while using teamwork!

The familiar story of Goldilocks is a perfect way to practice and assess your students’ knowledge of the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish with easy differentiation. Students love these activities because they use stories that they are already familiar with, making them more comprehensible, turning this tricky grammar topic from dry and boring to engaging and fun!
This resource makes a great emergency sub plan (2 days’ worth of material), homework assignment, or formative assessment. These stories are great for Spanish 2 or as a review of the Preterite vs Imperfect tenses at the beginning of Spanish 3 or 4.
Prepping this resource couldn't be any easier - just print out the pages you want to use with your students and make enough copies! Don't have time to make copies or have a last-minute sub? Use the comprehensible and engaging story powerpoint with your students or assign the Google Slides™ version story and questions.
This resources includes two versions of the same story:
Version A of the story with questions is two pages long, while version B is three pages long including questions. The two different versions make differentiation simple!

Spanish Camino de Santiago Google Slides™ Reading, Writing, Conversation
By Specialty Spanish
El Camino de Santiago is one of the most interesting cultural features of Spain! This interactive Google Slides Presentation designed to be presented in Spanish uses beautiful images and Pear Deck to engage Spanish students in a lesson about what the Camino is and why different people make the trek. Slides contain speaker notes to guide you in what to tell students about El Camino. The presentation and interactive student questions are designed to be in Spanish, but it is easily editable if you would like to change it to English!
In addition to the presentation, there are 4 activity suggestions. First is a 3-page article about El Camino de Santiago written in Spanish. Next, I suggest showing a portion of the movie “The Way” with Martin Sheen. Unfortunately, this movie is only in English, which is why I only show a portion of it. But the scenery and the message of the movie are so worth it!! After students see a portion of the movie, there are group discussion questions about the movie included. I linked in my Extempore activity under the written questions- feel free to email me if you would like to know more about that website! Last, I have students write the next scene of the movie! They must demonstrate the spirit of El Camino and some elements of what they’ve learned about El Camino in their writing.
This is a great cultural activity for more advanced Spanish students, and it goes perfectly with the AP Unit 5: Factors that Influence our Quality of Life!
