Looking for a fun and interactive way to manage student behavior leading up to the summer months? Look no further than this summer countdown chain! Each day, students will remove a link from the chain as they display positive school behavior, getting one step closer to summer. This behavior management tool is perfect for keeping students engaged and motivated during the end-of-year slump. Download now and start counting down to summer in style!

Directions for Using in Your Classroom:

• Print the Summer Countdown paper – choose the option you’d like.
  • You can use the plain Summer Countdown option or the one where you can write in your own PBIS rules.
  • When I used this in my classroom, I printed the black and white Summer Countdown paper and the chain links on colored paper.
  • Optional – laminate for use in future years.
• Print the chain links on your choice of paper – white, colored, cardstock, etc.
• Copy enough chain links so you have one for every student in your class.
  • I included a page of blank chain links that you can write additional rewards for your class.
• Determine when to start the chain – count back from your last day of school until you get to the number of students in your class plus 1.
  • Example – If you have 23 students in your class, count back 24 days and that will be the day you will start the Summer Countdown Chain.
• Put one hole punch at the top and one hole punch at the bottom of the Summer Countdown paper. These hole punches should be in the middle of the paper.
• Tie a piece of string through the top of the paper to use for hanging in your classroom.
• Tie a piece of string through the bottom of the paper to connect the chain links.
• Link the chain pieces together with the reward on the inside. The very top chain link should be the link that says, “Have an awesome summer!”
  • Be strategic about when to include time sensitive rewards such as homework passes.
  • See the images on the next slide about putting the chain together.
• At the end of each school day, pick one student who followed directions that day to cut the chain link and they will receive the reward.
