Learning about Patriot Day (9/11) - WebQuest & Word Search Puzzle

This webquest / Internet scavenger hunt is a perfect one day activity for middle schoolers to learn more about Patriot Day (Day of Service and Remembrance, 9/11) as they use the Internet to research answers to these questions. It is appropriate for middle school science or technology classes.

The lesson includes the student handout and an answer key, along with a short list of Internet sites that teachers can provide to students to help with the quest if they choose. There are also some additional links to sites if teachers want to expand the lesson. Two versions of the WebQuest are included to let teachers print the questions or to provide them digitally as an interactive page in an editable Microsoft PowerPoint file. Additionally, a word search puzzle with answer key is included, perfect for early finishers or as a part of the lesson.

This is a great lesson to leave with a sub too!

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

This fun and engaging WebQuest is a unique twist on the typical getting to know you activity. It combines the two things teenagers love, using technology and talking about themselves! Students are provided with 15 prompts that they must first quickly research. Then based on what they find, they share something about themself with their partner. It's fun, interactive, and will get all kids feeling comfortable to share about themself. This WebQuest can be completed in pairs or in small groups.

  • Students go to a history website (URL provided) and choose an era in which they would love to live. Then, they share this information with their partner.
  • Students go to a website about names and choose their favorite name. Then, they share something about their own name.
