Mix up your end-of-the-year classroom routine with our End-of-the-Year Social Problem Solving Activity, tailored to nurture social and emotional growth in your students.

Swap out the usual routine with these engaging social problem-solving scenarios. They're the perfect way to inject a touch of social-emotional learning into your end-of-the-year celebration, making it not just memorable but also full of valuable lessons.

CASEL 5 Social-Emotional Competencies: Our scenarios are thoughtfully crafted to ignite discussions around the CASEL 5 social-emotional competencies – Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.

What's Included

  • 3 social problem-solving worksheets, each with 5 different Valentine's Day-related social situations
  • both color and black and white versions

How it Works

  1. Decide if you want students to work independently, with a partner, or in groups. Or have students work alone and then share answers in a class discussion.
  2. Students read each situation, deciding whether the child in the scenario made a good or poor choice. This process encourages critical thinking and reflection on social behaviors.
  3. For good choices, students explain why the decision was positive. For poor choices, students propose alternative ways to handle the situation, sparking meaningful discussions around social skills and empathy.

Sample End-of-the-Year Scenarios

  • Aiden's Gift Dismissal: The teacher gave small end-of-the-year gifts to everyone. Aiden said he didn’t like it and immediately threw it in the trash.

  • Liam's Vacation Comparison: Liam tells his mom that other students are going on fancy vacations for summer break. When his mom says that they can’t afford that, Liam grumbles and complains.

  • Christian's Secret Card: Christian brings in a teacher appreciation card and secretly gets all of the students to sign it.
